U.S. Army post Fort Moore, formerly Fort Benning, is offering a $15,000 reward for information regarding more than 30 missing M17 pistols assumed stolen.
The M17 became the Army’s official sidearm in 2017.
Ammoland reported “Enhanced Night Vision Goggles (ENVGs) and an AN/PAS 13D Thermal Optic” are also missing.

Look at the supply personnel?
Time to profile Muslim Army personnel.
The severity of the consequences of being apprehended with one of those vastly outweighs their value.
and in Afghanistan they just gave them away with tons of other stuff
It’s a semi-auto pistol. I don’t know why anyone would go to the trouble of stealing these from Uncle Sam.
Complacency. Laziness in following established procedures regarding armory keys and two-man integrity.
My guess, anyways. Certain there's at least an E6 and E7 who are in some serious trouble right now.
It pains me to say there's an incredible number of really stupid people in the military.
Yeah, an M17, also known as the SIG Sauer P320. Them darn things will fire by themselves when pulling one out of the holster.
“I don’t know why anyone would go to the trouble of stealing these from Uncle Sam.”
Where have you been? The scum in this country will steal anything that is not locked up.
I do not like these “modern” pistols. They could change the caliber, but as far as I am concerned there is no reason to abandon the 1911 design.
We were locked down in the barracks for missing any sensitive items. It was an inside job.
Yeah, me too, I think Mr. John Moses Browning knew what he was doing.
From the paucity of information in this article, I’m guessing that the theft was from a central weapon’s storage and maintenance unit on Fort Benning/Moore and NOT an individual unit arms room that usually results in a unit lock down as you mentioned.
I remember being company clerk and running the arms room because I was able to know and correctly complete which forms and signatures to get. Also was crewman on a tank at the same time.
“but as far as I am concerned there is no reason to abandon the 1911 design.”
As a long time 1911 fan and an owner of 3 fine examples, I absolutely love my Sig P226. It’s far simpler to field strip, holds twice the amount of ammunition, and is dead bang accurate. It came from the factory cut for an optic which greatly helps my 65 year old eyes.

“ I think Mr. John Moses Browning knew what he was doing.”
Explain the Hi Power then.

Easier places to steal from than a supposedly secure military base with access control to the weapons storage facility.
