Loneliness and cognitive performance at Thanksgiving is a sad occurrence.
The Lord Is With Thee!
Rejoice I Say !
Yes it’s a sad situation.
Many elderly people have lost a spouse, and seen many lifelong friends and relatives pass away.
Staying connect to with other people is important ,at any age, but especially so when people get older apparently.

File this under “Duh!”.
My wife works with a feeding program at a 55+ low-income housing project. It’s amazing how close-knit they are. They check on each other and chat all the time.
I’m sitting here alone on Thanksgiving. My son will probably call me later, my sister texted me this morning. That will be all the human contact I have today. I am perfectly content. Why? Because I’m a man and I don’t sit around moping and feeling sorry for myself. Man up for God’s sake.
I’ve worked in three nursing homes. It’s heart breaking sometimes to see even families will forget about ‘’Moma’’ when she’s in a nursing home.
“They’ll never care about because you’re old and in way’’.
Throw in being burned out of your community, losing everything, being isolated with traumatic brain injury and constant illness ....
Cognitive decline!!?? Bat crap crazy is a better description.
I quit goodbye
I would say that you’ll find a correlation between autism and cognitive decline, because people who have a degree of autism do not easily socialize and are often not welcome in social settings.
Since they have very specific thought patterns of not really thinking of anything when alone, it presents a higher risk for them.
So, how many millions were wasted on another obvious study?
That’s why little old ladies have cats, JD. Back off and watch your words next time.
Half a bottle of Cabernet before dinner will do it for me.
I think I’m because my mind never stops.
Yuppers...
It’s what you make it.

Dead Heads Unite!
Happened to my next door neighbor. Her husband got ill over a 6 month period and died, that was a little over a year ago. Now all she talks about is how lonely she is living alone in the house. She does have a dog and bird, but is lonely. Lots of their relatives also died over the last 5 years.

Not Alone.
When older widows and widowers say they feel lonely, I think what they really feel is grief over their spouses who’ve passed on. Because, even when they live with a family member, they feel lonely when the family is at work. If they live alone but get together with other seniors during the day, they feel lonely at night. They seem to want to be surrounded by people 24/7 so that they are not alone with their thoughts and the pain of loss.
