Ukraine updates: France backs longer-range missiles
DW.com ^ | November 24, 2024

Posted on 11/25/2024 1:01:06 PM PST by Angelino97

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told the BBC that Ukraine can shoot French longer-range missiles into Russia in the "logics of self-defense." The French Scalp missiles are the same as the UK's Storm Shadow missiles, which Ukraine had already used in attacks on Russia.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova tolt state media that Barrot's comments are "not support for Ukraine, but rather a death knell for Ukraine."

Barrot spoke after the United States greenlit the use of US-provided longer-range ATACMS missiles by Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine shot down dozens of Russian drones targeting regions across the country. On the other side, Russia said it had destroyed 34 Ukrainian drones over the Russian Kursk region next to Ukraine.

It’s only a matter of time until Russia does win the war.

But, that could be hundreds of years into the future.

So, it’s only a matter of time before Russia decides to retreat and call it a day. An unwinnable war should not be allowed to kill thousands of more people.

President Trump on January 20, 2025: “As the Commander-in-Chief I hereby state that any nation that launches long range missiles into recognized Russian territory is no longer under the defense umbrella of the United States and can fight Russia alone. These rogue European states are trying to draw the U.S. into a European-initiated WW3 by antagonizing Russia while being deluded that their aggressive acts will be backed by NATO and the U.S. if you want to fight Russia you can do it on your own without support from the U.S. FAFO.

Dumb move. Putin promised to do harm to NATO if any member got involved in this war. Western Europe is begging Putin to press the red button. IMOHO

Trump should let Putin know that France is acting again his wishes and if Russia were to target France there would be no US response.

Remember all those individual security agreements that were signed with Zelinski that we were told would allow individal nations in NATO to fight in Ukraine without triggering Article 5.

Go for it Macron. Go for it Starmer.

I believe that Article 5 will not be triggered by the individual EU states going to war against Russia on their own. NATO did not sign up for individual conutires to send their troops against Russia in hopes that the US and NATO will have to save their @$$e$. France and Germany may find themselves on their own. Macron lost an election but hangs on... Starmer is wildly unpopular... That Starmer’s party send 300 people to the states to help the Harris Campaign during the final weeks of the election means that England has a NEW SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE US UNDER TRUMP.

The escalation reached its crescendo when Russia invaded a sovereign country. Which one both Russia and the US gave security guarantees. Further provocations by Russia include bombing civilians, kidnapping, and torture.

The fact that Russia thought it was stealing coal, grain, and nuke plants from a defenseless country does not make it escalatory for them to fight back.

Macron and Zelenskyy signed a security pact calling for French military and civilian aid for Kyiv.....March 2024.....He also stated .." a deployment of Western troops to fight Russia on the ground in Ukraine should not be ruled out".......

***********

Both countries will abandon such plans when Trump puts an end to their U.S. provided free ride. When the money dries up so will their planned response.
