As the specter of World War III looms with tensions rising, FEMA has stepped in with a guide to surviving a nuclear attack, signaling the grim possibility as the war in Ukraine intensifies and Middle Eastern conflicts heat up. The agency's instructions echo the bygone Cold War era, offering a modernized set of protocols for Americans to safeguard their families against the destructive power of a nuclear explosion.
The looming threat of nuclear conflict has been underscored by a newly released map indicating which regions would be safest in the event of an escalation by Putin, alongside another mapping out the devastating effects on the UK should nuclear missiles be launched.
FEMA's stark advice is outlined in their latest release: "Nuclear explosions can cause significant damage and casualties from blast, heat, and radiation but you can keep your family safe by knowing what to do and being prepared if it occurs," presenting it as a fundamental survival resource. The agency further explained that nuclear weapons could range vastly in size, from small portable devices to missiles, emphasizing the unpredictability of such attacks.
The peril of nuclear explosions isn't just the initial bright flash blindness or the ensuing blast wave, which can wreak havoc on people and structures miles away.
Post-explosion, radiation threatens cellular injury and sickness, while the thermal energy promises widespread burns and property destruction.

Need EMP hardening in our homes’ electrical systems?
Going out today and purchase a lot of school desks so my family can be totally protected
But minus a (relative) direct hit, preps are still valid.
The EMP threat is an overblown hyped up non threat.
When I was in grade school in the 1960s, all we had to do to survive a nuclear attack was crouch underneath our desks.
This nuclear war with Russia has one big winner.China.
For all those on FR who are pining for a nuclear war... Get your head out of your *ss and figure this out... There is no surviving, and if you do happen to find yourself alive after the initial strike... Then prepare yourself for a very torturous end to your sad, sorry and short existence.
FEMA can’t help people locally when it gets windy. Can you imagine how those fools would run around like chickens with their heads cut off during an actual disaster? If the U.S. ever gets nuked, we are on our own. Mad Max here we come- people walking around half naked looking for a gallon of gas
Duck and cover. Civil Defense predates fema in quirkyness.
LOL. Sounds like a cheap novel...
I think that Russia has just demonstated that they have IRBMs, with MIRV capability that are extremely accurate and very powerful. Some people (on the fringe, I suppose) are saying that what Russia has shown us is basically Rods from God. Which is to say — Russia doesn’t need to go nuclear. Russia has non-nuclear capability that we cannot match and which we cannot stop.
If this whole thing does go nuclear, it will be because the USA pushes that button first. We will start it. Over Ukraine???
Back in the early 80s I picked up a “please share” booklet at the federal building in Cincinnati. “Protection in the Nuclear Age” is a very informative how to book. Do you have kids or grandkids? Still time to order and receive your iodine tablets.
I built my house in 1993. I gave a lot thought to a home shelter but thought the Cold War was over. Silly me.
Yep. I’m sick of FR allowing these ruskie, chink and zeeper trolls. It’s embarrassing. This place is becoming a parody of itself.
If there is little change of a conventional war then nukes are out of the question.
Scare mongering.
This language has been around for decades.
The first rule of surviving if you see a flash will always be duck and cover whether at the office, school, outdoors or at home.
I’ve seen tests showing that radiated EMP worry is overblown. Even sensitive devices like phones and laptops work after being powered back up. But the conductive EMP tests showed that most things plugged in get fried (or at least the power supply for that device/appliance gets fried).
