Former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Republicans had to “disabuse themselves of this strange affection for Vladimir Putin.”
McMaster said, “This is what I can’t understand, Margaret. There are some people in the Republican Party these days who kind of tend to parrot Putin’s talking points.”
Host Margaret Brennan asked, “Why?”

He forgot to call us Hitler, racists, homophobes and Jews, too.
I can think of a few strange affections the Democrats need to disabuse themselves of.
We know what you jerks did, and we disprove.
He;s a DOPE!! Mr. Z has closed Catholic Churches.....Putin has done no such thing.....but they are BOTH BAD!!
Ironic from the Dem party that spews Hamas talking points every single day
So, avoiding WW3 means you love Putin???
McMaster had one victory in the Iraq war. This doesn’t qualify him for jack, politically.
Putin is a Communist. Zalenski and Ukraine are corrupt. It’s like Hitler vs Stalin all over again. Either wins you lose.
Which FR screen name is his?
It is not that we love Putin.
It is that we hate Neocons.
Better ti let the People’s Republic of China get themselves more entangled im this on behalf of the Soviets, err the Russians.
Hey, McM, F@$% off.
It is not favoring Putin. It is that he is the lesser of a host of evils: Zylynskyy, Biden, and scum like you.
I don’t trust anyone but I would trust Putin over NATO any day.
It’s not that conservatives have a “strange affection for Vladimir Putin”. It’s that we have a strong and very normal aversion to WWIII.
Anyone who recognizes that Putin is a smart strategist (no matter how cruel he is), is automatically deemed a Putin-lover. Anyone who speaks to a Russian is tagged as a Putin-sympathizer. Unless, of course, you are a democrat such as Peppermint-Patty Psaki.
If you track it back, this narrative originated with Hillary Clinton when she (out of the blue) accused Tulsi Gabbard as being compromised by Putin and a Russia sympathizer. She was also the one who started the Trump/Russia Collusion conspiracy.
That’s what they’ve used against Trump and since that time, all Democrats parrot that narrative when they want to destroy a Trump supporter. Russia, Russia, Russia, along with the sexual abuse accusations, is getting old.
Mmmm, most of us just don’t want to send our kids off to war. We did that for over 20 years and got nothing but broken bodies and broken hearts.
If the US wants to play a role in this fiasco it should have been to bring the parties together in a peace process. Also freeing up the gas and oil would have made it impossible for Russia to continue the war.
McMaster needs to go back and read his own book on how we blundered our way into Vietnam, thinking that we could be the policeman of the world.
And that was just a battle with a proxy state. Ukraine is pulling us into a direct confrontation with a peer rival on their border. We haven’t done that since WW2 ended.
I’m no fan of Putin, but I have a question about “evil”...
Who is worse, a man that can kill one million people but only kills 500,000, or a man that can kill 50,000 people, and does?
I say it’s the latter.
Thanks for taking time to clear that up for these dim bulbs.
