The Illinois Supreme Court reversed the conviction of MAGA hate hoaxer Jussie Smollett.

As much as I dislike Smollett, I agree with this decision. Double jeopardy is unconstitutional.
Double jeopardy? Like Ofc Chavin being piled upon with charges for the SAME ‘CRIME?’

I think they said he forfeits $10,000 bond. That should be enough to stop others from trying this.

What “double jeopardy”? He only got tried once AFTER the DA dismissed the charges, as I recall.

And I agree with you. Evidently there was a solid plea agreement in place, with all conditions fulfilled. Then the prosecution decided to go to trial anyway.
So the fault is not with this decision. It’s with whoever negotiated that original plea agreement with Smollett’s lawyers. It was too lenient.
He’ll get released, sue the state and get paid $20 billion.
I have no doubt he’ll be able and allowed to exact retribution on justice. It’s a forte of Democrats.

And what’s his name shot and killed someone on the set...and never convicted. Stars have it made.
I don't believe that defense for one second. These are seasoned prosecutors who know the ins and outs of everything they do, and the risks involved in going against the rules. They would not have deliberately sabotaged their case, unless they were paid to do this (which isn't beyond the pale - this IS Cshitcago.)
I'll bet Smollett did NOT meet the terms of the plea deal. Otherwise, why would it have gone to trial?
This is just a corrupt court.
