Cop who fatally shot J6 protestor has lengthy disciplinary record that includes gun incidents

The Capitol Police officer who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt during the Jan. 6 riots and then was promoted has a lengthy internal affairs and disciplinary record that includes firearm-related incidents, a sweeping congressional investigation has found.

The issues in Captain Michael Byrd's background included a failed shotgun qualification test, a failed FBI background check for a weapon's purchase, a 33-day suspension for a lost weapon and referral to Maryland state prosecutors for firing his gun at a stolen car fleeing his neighborhood, according to congressional and police documents obtained by Just the News.

Byrd’s record was uncovered during a larger House Administration Oversight Subcommittee investigation into the Capitol Police disciplinary process and was chronicled in a letter Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., the panel's chairman, sent Wednesday to the department's chief, Thomas Manger, in which the lawmaker expressed concerns about the officer’s promotion to captain.

By 2023, Byrd was promoted to the rank of captain by Capitol Police leadership.

Loudermilk is specifically concerned about Byrd’s promotion because of his lengthy disciplinary history, which includes at least two firearm incidents and one confrontation with another officer while off duty.

In 2004 — in the earliest event uncovered by Loudermilk’s investigation — then-Sergeant Byrd attempted to halt a car theft while he was off duty by brandishing his gun and firing two shots at a stolen vehicle in the middle of a suburban neighborhood, according to a Capitol Police Internal Affairs report reviewed by Just the News.

When explaining the incident to investigators, Byrd claimed that he fired his weapon at the oncoming vehicle as it tried to strike him. But, when the vehicle was found officers located one bullet hole in the rear of the vehicle that entered from behind, contradicting Byrd’s account, according to Loudermilk’s letter.

DEI hiring and promotion can be deadly. Bryd should have been prosecuted for murder or at least negligent homicide in the death of Ashli Babbitt.

Whatever happened to “excessive force”? It goes completely unmentioned.

When a policeman ambushes, shoots and kills an unarmed civilian who is not resisting or fleeing, a civilian who was never confronted or given the option to surrender - it is murder!

There is the real threat to any President or Congress members. That department needs to be ass kicked till it’s clean. What else has gone on with those officers?

There is no statute of limitations for murder. I hope this will be taken up by up by Trump’s DOJ.

Or just busted down in rank. He’s lucky he’s black and she was white, or this would have been a huge deal.

So how did he get out this?

He should have been prosecuted by city in which here fired his weapon negligently.

Who pulled the strings to keep him out of jail?

The incoming Republican House Speaker should haul the Capitol Police brass in to provide sworn testimony as why man with his history is still on the force and has been promoted to the rank of captain. Don’t they have people with better records?

I don’t have to say DEI do I?

a 33-day suspension for a lost weapon

I’m curious as to whether this suspension was with or without pay.

This is a government job, so it could well have been with pay.

Wow. I posted this article on Facebook and got permanently suspended. They say that I can’t even ever view it again. It’s the only thing, pictures etc left of my life after the Almeda fire.
Then I turn on the furnace this morning and it will only blow cold air.
Every day it’s a nightmare. Will the world ever go back to normal?
I’m too old for this crap.
Then I think about Ashli Babbitt. All those protests that I was involved in... like snipers pointing at us at Jarbidge. That could have been me.

This story has been hushed for almost 4 years. It was like he was in a witness protection program. See nothing hear nothing know nothing.

My days are about the same. I no longer get alarmed when my car’s “check engine” light starts flashing (as happened yesterday) and my car sounds as if it is missing a cyclinder. It’s expected! LOL! If it wasn’t that, it would be the fridge, or the washer, or the hot water heater.

At my age, I just roll with the punches and assume God has a plan and will straighten things out according to his Will (with a little bit of help from the mechanic).

One of the very earliest acts of the revamped DOJ will be arresting and charging Michael Byrd with 2nd degree murder.

Roll with the punches?

You don’t know what being punched is until this government has taken everything you will ever have because you were a good citizen.

You will never understand until you have been there.

Your God crapped on me.

Your God crapped on me.

Please take that back. Please. God did not do anything to you. Evil people who follow Satan have done many of the bad things to you, not God. God says He will execute justice and He WILL. We may not see it, but He will. I have worked for four different Federal Agencies and two of them really did me dirty BECAUSE of my value system which differed from their value system, NOT for failing to do my job. God didn't do it, the evil people in the Federal government did those things and God WILL make them pay if they don't repent.

A bunch of other bad stuff has happened to me in jobs for precisely the same reason, liberal leftists in charge who hate God, the Bible and Christians. God WILL make them pay. When He makes them pay, they are going to be absolutely horrified, forever.
