CNN anchor Chris Wallace announced on Monday that he would leave the network at the end of his contract, citing the growing influence of podcasters such as Joe Rogan and Charlamagne tha God.
Wallace – who joined CNN in January 2022 after nearly 20 years at Fox News – told the Daily Beast he would leave the network at the end of his three-year contract in favor of independent broadcasting.
Describing podcasts and streaming platforms as “where the action seems to be,” Wallace pointed to Rogan and Charlamagne’s influence during the 2024 election, before adding, “I don’t flatter myself to think I will have that sort of reach.”
The Daily Beast noted that Wallace’s decision not negotiate his contract at CNN “comes as other anchors face being fired or having salaries cut as declining ratings and cord-cutting hit the industry’s bottom line.”
Last month, journalist Lachlan Cartwright reported that CNN CEO Mark Thompson had offered Wallace “a new deal for significantly less than the $8.5 million pact he inked under former CNN boss Jeff Zucker.”
In a statement on Monday, Thompson said, “Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming. We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for future.”
Wallace will continue to appear on CNN until the end of the year.

Does this mean he will leave CNN+ as well? ;-)
He could be the straight man on a comedy podcast, with Chris Rock as the cut-up. Or, he could become a Jeff Dunham puppet, and get paid for the use of his likeness.
:)
Ha-ha! That’s a new one to me.
The imagery is hilarious.
Leaves Fox. Leaves CNN. What next? Leaves small town newspaper?
Frankly, his father was probably not as good as he seemed. All the editing went his way.
Mike Wallace used to conduct ambush interviews. He would aggressively ask questions, and the retreating person would hem and haw. Reed Irvine (Accuracy in Media) did an ambush interview of Mike Wallace. A retreating Mike Wallace hemmed and hawed. Mr. take-charge could not rely on his team to do the edits!
I doubt that those people listen to podcasts of ANY kind!
She's the exception!
WHY?
Because now she is her own person, doesn't have to tow someone else's directives and is solidly CONSERVATIVE...for REAL!
LOL
Fair enough, and I agree that she’s redeemed herself.
But she spent a LONG time in the wilderness. She may be the only one who came back, and even still she doesn’t have the reach she did beforehand.
I could also add Tucker…lately, maybe starting with his WW 2 rant, he seems to have gone off the rails a bit.
He's okay when he teams up with Charlie Kirk...which is the ONLY time I ever see him.
Not to mention, he’s got a face for radio and a voice for print.
Kelly is a real conservative, to be fair.
Oh. Chris, I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now.
Disagree, there’s likely a bunch of older people that will likely slavishly follow him wherever.
CNN anchor Chris Wallace announced on Monday that he would leave the network at the end of his contract:
“Because i was being GROSSLY overpaid for another gig called CNN+ that failed a couple of weeks after they hired me, and because CNN had to pay me anyway, CNN used me here and there, but there’s no way in hades CNN will renew my ridiculously overpriced contract for anything close to the current one, assuming CNN will even renew my contract at all, so rather than go through the embarrassing process of being publicly rejected, i choose to leave at the end of my current contract.”
I hear Alpo is looking for volunteers.
wrong chris ...
I was going to go there, but didn’t. True.
His only goal was to keep Trump from wining and he failed, so, he’s taking his ball and going home.
