Because they are cutting back on their Sci-Fi area. They are only going to be carrying reissues of classics and the very top authors. David Weber is not a "top author"? Ok.

One time (honest) I went to a Barnes & Nobel to buy Rush Limbaugh’s new, at the time, book. It was very high on the Best Seller list, but I couldn’t find it in the Bestseller area, so I ask a clerk.

The clerk, who seemed to be a bit light in the loafers, said, “Tsk. We have a huge stack of them over here. I don’t know why they ordered so many of those!” as he led me over to another part of the store.

When we got there, there were only two copies left. I grabbed one and another guy grabbed the other one. The clerk was in disbelief.
