Washington State Voters Pass Initiative to Protect Natural Gas Stoves
Breitbart ^ | 11/10/2024 | Joel B Pollack

Voters in Washington State have approved a referendum known as Initiative 2066, which would block state and local authorities from limiting access to natural gas stoves and appliances, which environmental groups have tried to do.

The Seattle Times reported:

Washington voters approved Initiative 2066, a measure that explicitly protects access to natural gas in Washington, and also weakens building codes that make it more difficult and costly to add natural gas heating in new construction.

The initiative marks a moment when the state, long known for its progressive climate policies, has taken a step in the other direction. It throws a wrench in the state’s long-term plans to ease reliance on climate-warming fossil fuels, and Washington now joins dozens of other states that have passed similar laws prohibiting local bans on natural gas.

As of Friday, about 51.4% of ballots favored Initiative 2066, a lead of about 90,000 votes. The Seattle Times called the contest. But this might not be the end of the fight, as opponents are preparing a legal challenge they intend to file after the election is certified.

Close call, but great to see Seattle didn’t get their way for once. Get rid of their universal mail-in voting, and it would have been a stronger victory, at least 55-45.

Of course they are. Whenever the people piss off the leftists, they resort to the judicial activists to come to the rescue.

Now the einvirowackos will force the gas pipelines to shut down. Or limit the quantity of gas available.

Could it go national or is it a states rights issue. May not need to go national as Washington is pretty blue. Perhaps the solution is to bring the idea to NY.

If Zeldin becomes Governor...maybe things will change. I have to look up the count in the NYS Legislature and see where we are.

Although I agree with this ballot measure, in an effort to do the right thing, I think they have instead supported a Ballot measure PROHIBITING TAXPAYER FUNDS FROM BEING SPENT ON ANY TYPE OF PETROLEUM PRODUCT AND FOSSIL FUEL, Force them to LIVE UP TO THEIR IDEALS.

Electric range can cook also but it is much slower than gas range.

I have gas heat and hot water. It would cost me some $30,000 to retrofit to electric. Of which, since they have been busily taking out dams to protect fish runs, there will be a shortage. All for a non-existent alleged “benefit” to the climate.

indeed ... my whole-house backup generator is powered by NG ... failure of the NG system is an end-of-the-world scenario ...

Here in NYS...everything gas is outlawed...

These places are not banning natural gas for "environmental" reasons - those "environmentalists" are just the useful idiots.

They're restricting natural gas because they can't afford to replace the decayed gas line infrastructure. Most of it was built without sufficient thought about maintenance or repair. It was built in a time when labor was cheap and they assumed such cheap (and skilled) labor would be available to replace it a century later. They had no idea of the fortune it would cost to tear up even one street to replace it.

These governments can't afford to tell the truth about the decayed infrastructure because it will severely impact their bond rating.

When gas cookers are outlawed...only outlaws cook with gas gas.

Add a De Longhi expresso machine for the home barista.
