An 82-year-old Edmonds woman was arrested Monday for a hate crime after assaulting two trump supporters, according to the Edmonds Police Department.
She has not been charged, but a judge found probable cause for a hate crime offense and two counts of fourth-degree assault Tuesday. On Wednesday, a newly released police body camera video shows the suspect explaining to responding officers what happened.
The 82-year-old told police, “I approached her, and I said I want to know why you're voting for Trump. That's the only thing. And. And I said because you're brown-skinned."

The incident happened a day before the election, just before 1 p.m., at the corner of SR104 and 100th Avenue West in Edmonds. Gina Powell said she was on the receiving end of the encounter. She told KOMO News she had never seen the 82-year-old until she was in her face, questioning her race and political beliefs.
"I was just shocked at just the presence of mind, and she made it very clear it was my skin color," said Powell.
She was with her friend Mary Jennings who she met on the same street days prior. The two and a small group of other supporters stood on the same street corner three days in a row leading up to the presidential election. They were both waving to pedestrians and motorists, raising signs, chanting, and carrying Trump flags.
They said didn't see the woman approach because they were distracted by another woman who stopped to ask the group about their stand on abortion and reproductive rights. Jennings and Powell said they were trying to console the woman because she started crying, and that when the 82-year-old approached their group and confronted Powell about her skin color and support for Donald Trump.
"And that's when she shoved me, pushed me back, and I said don't touch me. And then not even a second, she just popped me right in my chin," said Powell.
The woman arrested, who has not been charged, told police her response was to push her away and said she put her hand to Powell's chin and pushed on her shoulder - insisting it wasn't hard, but said, 'Did do that. I did do that. That's when Jennings said she stepped in between both women.
“I said you have no right to touch anyone, and she goes all I did was all it was barely like this, and she punched me, but she connected, and you know, it slammed my jaw shut," Jennings said. Both women are physically okay, but it's been an emotional toll.
"We’ll haven't... haven't been able to. I haven't been able to work yet. I'm still kind of in shock," said an emotional Powell.
Edmonds police said they have established probable cause for a hate crime arrest and that the 'suspect continued to show no remorse for the incident and attempted to push an officer while demonstrating how she acted.'
"Not everybody on the left is correct, not everyone on the right is correct, both sides could though bring important information to the center, we can, we need to come together, we can't continue the division," said Jennings.
Both women said they will not be deterred by what happened and will proudly support Trump publicly.
"He got shot by a bullet And he said ‘fight, fight, fight,’ I got a little jab in my chin, so I'm not sitting down," said Powell, referring to the Trump assassination attempt in Bulter County, Pennsylvania last July.
