After the collapse of the defense systems, Iran is blamed: "Russia is treacherous"
Beni Sabti, an expert on Iranian affairs, on the heavy price Tehran is paying: "They are considering doubling the defense budget by 200%. This is suicide, just like the Soviet Union did."
Beni Sabti, a researcher on Iranian affairs at the Institute for National Security Studies, spoke to "Maariv" about the turmoil Iran has been caught in recently. "The Iranians are starting to think a little differently about the prices of this war." According to him, "the government submitted a proposal that increases the defense budget by 200%. It's like - the more impoverished they are, the more they invest in irons that will burn on the way and get nowhere. This is suicide, this Also what happened to the Soviet Union, it invested so much in its military system, that in the end it was one of the things that broke it up.
Later, Sabti told about an interesting trend in relations between Iran and Russia - the two giants leading the axis of evil. "A kind of criticism began against the Russians that their defense system, the S-300, did not function and was even neutralized. They are starting to say that they are treacherous, that they do not know how to stand up to Western Israeli technology. Why did we wait 15 years to receive this system? And it does not function on the day of The need." Even so, the Iranian public does not like the Russians, but this time the claims come from members of parliament, and from commentators who dare to say things they did not dare to do so. But these are all kinds of juniors. It is precisely the most seniors who do not argue, but are silent. It seems they are doing it from a place of fear, they don't know what awaits them next time from Israel, maybe from the United States. So they economize their steps in all that is implied, also in the financial sense but not only."
Since words matter, could you parse or explicate this text, please?
Oh, fight on ya wankers. Double your defense spending so that Israel can blow it up some more. And then keep doubling up. Rinse and repeat.
I take it to mean that younger members of parliament are being critical of the failure of Russian military equipment. The older members of parliament are staying quiet, and that’s because they don’t want to get arrested and beheaded.
Thank you.
Lol
1. They bought the export models. Of course they’re less capable. Neither the US nor Russia nor China sells their top shelf versions to anyone else.
2. However. the problem is not the equipment in this case. India bought many of the same systems and as our guys who have flown against the Indians can tell you, Russian hardware can be damn impressive in the right hands. The problem is the crews and the training of the crews that Iran has manning them. Among other issues is the fact that Iran promotes based on political and theological ability over everything else.
The latter was recently demonstrated when Iranian air defense crews randomly decided that Ukranian Airlines Flight 752 was an attacking infidel cruise missile. Which they had no reason to believe, as it was a regularly scheduled 737 taking off from Tehran Airport with permission. They shot it down while it was beginning to climb out after takeoff.
The problem is far more likely the people manning the system here and not the system itself.
As I understand the article and passage that you refer to, Israel's limited but successful strike on Iran has deeply unsettled the Iranian leadership and posed the question of whether Iran can afford to make real the quality of defense that it assumed that it had with Russian antiaircraft systems.
With those Russian systems proving utterly inadequate, junior Iranian leaders are said to be openly critical of Russia and want more defense spending, while senior leaders are silent due to uncertainty and fear.
In the context of Iranian politics, that means a generational conflict that the senior leaders will almost certainly win for the time being.
Listen, kids, being stupid has worked for us since 1979, why
change now?
Is that the reality, or is the reality that complicated systems require people who are sufficiently trained to operate them effectively?
I also believe the correct translation should read as follows as it makes more sense:
But these are all kinds of juniors. It is precisely why most seniors who do not argue, remain silent.
I think that the key factors are that the Israelis are highly skilled and have the benefit of the F-35 and of US electronics and weapons. Even if operated by the Russians, as was the case in clashes over Syrian airspace, I do not think that the Iranian air defense system would have done any better.
Could be the case. I hesitate making those assumptions. Better to let them think they have superior equipment. Otherwise, they might just improve on what they have. 👍 😋
You say, “Listen, kids, being stupid has worked for us since 1979, why change now?”
I say, kids being stupid has not worked for us since 1964 and the UC Berkeley movements.
For Israel, making Iran doubt her military capabilities helps deter attacks on Israel. For cultural reasons, Israel and the West are inherently better at military technology and weapons than Iran.
They also make their own mods to the us equipment, and make it arguably better for them, in certain areas.
Quite true. Israel’s entrepreneurial culture, skills in technology, and acute national security needs make for a highly capable military and weapons industry. In many cases, Israeli innovations not only benefit them but also flow back to the US and NATO.
No need to send Russia back to improving their weapons. They just might be successful.
Well we were better, I have serious doubts about that going forward because of the enemies from within.
I mean look at the issues Boeing has. Not good at all.
We even rely on parts that we get from our enemies from the outside.
[The problem is far more likely the people manning the system here and not the system itself.]
yes
They work so well inside Russia that only “falling Ukrainian drone debris” destroys huge ammo dumps, munitions factories, oil storage and transshipment sites, GRU server farms, radar sites, etc. Very accurate “falling debris”.
Recall that a little while back, the Israelis figured out how to inject a computer virus into the S-300 system software that caused the system to not recognize the Israeli strike aircraft. They did this in flight before the strike packages went in for their mission. Result: no losses.
I wonder if they got upgrades to the S-300 system software yet.
