Barking mad or brilliant?
New York City lawmakers are proposing a bill to let Big Apple workers take time off to care for their sick furry family members.
The proposal, sponsored by city council member Shaun Abreu, would amend and expand the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act — which requires companies to give employees paid sick leave to care for themselves or family members — to include pets and service animals.
Abreu touted mental health as a reason to incentivize pet ownership with the amended bill, citing research that owning pets can reduce cortisol, a stress-related hormone, and force people into physical activity and out of social isolation.

seriously?
Asylum seekers living in Western New York hotels are being told to leave by December 31
...Erie County says any individuals or families in those hotels who have not received a permanent community placement by December 31 will be transported back to New York City...
Note to Gothamites: Vote like your lives depend on the outcome. Because they do.
My goldfish require a lot of attention.
I’d say so, unfortunately.
The INSANITY continues!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This infuriates me, as the proposed law does not cover plants. Who’s to say that a sick turtle deserves more attention than a sick philodendron?
It’s yet another disgusting example of animal kingdom bias.
NYC dwellers are the pets.
Heck, you can call in sick and go out partying and who’s the wiser? Thought everyone did that.

Gaywad with a cat he loves too much, I guess.
Cradle to grave socialism with government as provider of everything.
I have a sickly goldfish....He needs me..............
GMTA!..............
Oh, Moses smell the roses.
I have a pet rock.
Interesting considering in the eyes of the law a pet is seen no differently than a piece of furniture or any other inanimate object.
I know that because I joined a class action lawsuit once involving tainted pet food.
The legal representation was exemplary but they had to go round and round for a couple of years because the argument was that pets only fall under the category of just another possession.
Unbelievably, it will get even worse.
Are you able to communicate effectively or do you need a fulltime, live-in caregiver for the pet rock? If the caregiver can do some housekeeping and cooking, you might want to consider it, give that NYC will soon pay for it.
My hospital system stopped calling it sick time. They just rolled it all into earned time off. You could take it if you are sick, your kid is sick, or your cat died. We didnt care “why”; it all came out of the same pot.
It made the BS stories go away, which was nice for everyone. Idiot employees burned through it all by mid year and get a little angry when their “vacation” wasn’t approved because they took “mental health days” when they weren’t sick.
Being stupid is hard on people.
He gets lonely while I am at work and just sits there looking out the window all day. He never moves. I could use a rock walker.
