The U.S. Space Force is tracking debris in space after a satellite manufactured by Boeing exploded earlier this week, the satellite's operator said.
The Intelsat 33e satellite, which was launched in 2016 and provides communications across Europe, Asia and Africa, experienced "an anomaly" on Saturday, Intelsat said in a news release. Attempts were made to work with Boeing and repair the satellite, but on Monday, the U.S. Space Force confirmed that the satellite had exploded.

Everything is suddenly an “anomoly”. I don’t remember hearing that word much 20 years ago.
What can explode on a satellite? Can a battery?
Warranty expired..................
Anomaly
How does that happen???
Sabotage? China? Russia?
DEIANOMOLY.
I wondered the same thing.
Could have been hit by a meteor or space debris at 50k mph..............
737Max parts?
Space junk?
I hate it when that happens, when my satellite experiences “an anomaly” and explodes.
That makes the most sense.
What can explode on a satellite? Can a battery?
Russia confirmed via state media on Tuesday that it had conducted a weapons test targeting an unused Russian satellite on November 15.
did it have help
“Everything is suddenly an “anomoly”. I don’t remember hearing that word much 20 years ago.”
Over 50 years ago it was commonly used by NASA.
DIE is so wonderful it kills whatever it infects.
Geostationary satellite. Likely had liquid fuel on board, either hydrazine or hypergolic fuels, for orientation movement. Probably a valve failure or fuel leak. A hypergolic propellant is a rocket propellant combination used in a rocket engine, whose components spontaneously ignite when they come into contact with each other.
How do you shoot a satellite in space?
You need an anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon, which is a high-tech space weapon that can, as the name suggests, shoot down satellites.
Some are launched from the ground but others can be in orbit up in space.
It’s long been forecast that space would eventually become a very important domain for warfare thanks to an increased reliance on satellites for things such as GPS, telecommunications and weather forecasting.
You can imagine how taking out just the right satellite could affect a technology-dependent military’s defences.
So far, only the US, Russia, China and India have demonstrated the ability to shoot down their own satellites.
