High pitched, extended vowels and incredibly articulated: so-called 'gay voice' is a real phenomenon, researchers say.
Two science YouTubers have scoured studies behind the theory that homosexual men have a unique twang that transcends aspects like culture and upbringing.
Mitch Moffit, a biologist, and Greg Brown, a science teacher — who are both gay — explored what exactly constitutes a 'gay voice' and what might cause it...
They found that analysis comparing the pitch of straight and homosexual men's voices found key differences in how they speak.
Mr Moffit explained: 'Results find that gay men speak with higher pitch variation meaning that their range from low to high is much more extreme than straight men.'
Mr Brown added: 'Gay men were also found to have longer vowel durations for "a", "i", and "u" — they hold these vowels longer in general when they speak compared to straight men.'
One interesting aspect of these pitch analyses was that the results weren't language specific and were replicated across English, French and Dutch.
'The gay voice expands beyond language and isn't just the words or culture we engage in,' Mr Moffit said.
Mr Brown also highlighted a specific way the 's' sound seemed to be spoken amongst gay men.
'Gay men are also more likely to hold their s sound for longer than straight people,' he said.
He highlighted how this is contrary to the so-called 'gay lisp', a perceived quality of gay men's speech where they misarticulate the 's' sound as 'th'.
Studies, however, have shown homosexual men don't have an increased rate of lisps than their straight counterparts.
But one key observed difference between the sexualities was that straight men are more likely to mumble and slur their words compared to gay men who were more articulate.

I work with a guy who gives off a gay vibe. He’s a straight as can be.
But for the most part, the research is correct.
Being a retired Navy man still working for the Navy, I’ve seen how far the military has gone since Clinton’s “Don’t ask Don’t tell.”
When he was always talking about “greasing the union”, who knew that’s what he meant?
Long ago I worked for a young man who was the owners' son working at the business along with the daughter. The daughter called her mom "mom," and I just expected the entire family to be on the same wavelength on appellations. But the son called the mom "mother." Later on he "came out," surprising no one.
Sounds like these two are trying to argue for one.
I certainly have no knowledge in this area, but my experience has led me to peg a man as a homo, on more than one occasion, based on his speaking like this only to learn I was wrong.
“I get major gay vibes from Walz.”
I watch “Chicks On The Right” podcast at 8 a.m., and they had a good segment on the gay-ness of Walz today. Pretty funny. And probably true. They also want the details of the Indigo Girls concert events.
87% of gays have been sexually abused or simply neglected. Explains why their suicide rate is so high as well. It’s a mental disorder and perversion is the “relief”.
Wow! I wonder if this is true.
When I was in the USN, we had a skinny, very ordinary guy who we all thought was a homosexual, but he was quiet and kept to himself, did his job, so...nobody really bugged him.
We were getting ready to get underway once in the Med, and he was one of the last people who came running, red-faced, before they pulled the gangway.
People were snickering about this flaming guy, and someone later said something like “Yeah, he was probably running to escape his boyfriend” and such.
However, another guy (who I deemed very reliable) who knew the guy said “Not him. He is a quiet guy, but he gets more leg than any of you get, and I know. He has girls in every port. He told me he almost missed movement because the gal’s husband came home while he was waiting for a taxi to Fleet Landing, and chased him around until he could lose him and find another cab! (He apparently thought the woman’s husband was chasing him in another car, and that was why he was all red-faced from running to the ship!
I thought that was funny. Everyone thought he was a homosexual, and were all flabbergasted to find out this guy was some kind of chick-magnet!
He did marry a woman, and he voluntarily sought therapy to overcome his homosexuality. But he eventually died of AIDS.
Black Insurrectionist on X.com has several posts about this. Not sure if it is true but there was a call in where the male caller was foreign and almost crying.
All I can think of is Cavanaugh and how there were immediate televised Congressional Hearings over an alleged incident with the accuser not even remembering the year or time of year it allegedly happened.
Certainly some truth
Feminine emphasis manner of speaking
I’m not certain of that
It’s just impossible to tell if nature or nurture
I’ve seen gay acting two year olds
Effete queers butch up around me since I resemble an aging hells angel
My high school boyfriend had a classmate who moved the San Fran after college and decided he was gay. I didn’t know and reached out to him to see how he was doing and he sounded like a woman on the phone. He went from a normal male to a forced feminized voice - it sickens me to see these men act like they think women act.
He sets my gaydar off
I know his bestie he grew up with
Came out high school
That’s actually interesting. This article indicates there really is something wrong with vocal aspects of homos, but you are saying he changed it. Of course, it also indicates it’s often a choice.
Either way, though, it’s insane. Whether genetic defect, or defective thinking that leads to pretending to be another sex, it’s insanity.
