High pitched, extended vowels and incredibly articulated: so-called 'gay voice' is a real phenomenon, researchers say.
Two science YouTubers have scoured studies behind the theory that homosexual men have a unique twang that transcends aspects like culture and upbringing.
Mitch Moffit, a biologist, and Greg Brown, a science teacher — who are both gay — explored what exactly constitutes a 'gay voice' and what might cause it...
They found that analysis comparing the pitch of straight and homosexual men's voices found key differences in how they speak.
Mr Moffit explained: 'Results find that gay men speak with higher pitch variation meaning that their range from low to high is much more extreme than straight men.'
Mr Brown added: 'Gay men were also found to have longer vowel durations for "a", "i", and "u" — they hold these vowels longer in general when they speak compared to straight men.'
One interesting aspect of these pitch analyses was that the results weren't language specific and were replicated across English, French and Dutch.
'The gay voice expands beyond language and isn't just the words or culture we engage in,' Mr Moffit said.
Mr Brown also highlighted a specific way the 's' sound seemed to be spoken amongst gay men.
'Gay men are also more likely to hold their s sound for longer than straight people,' he said.
He highlighted how this is contrary to the so-called 'gay lisp', a perceived quality of gay men's speech where they misarticulate the 's' sound as 'th'.
Studies, however, have shown homosexual men don't have an increased rate of lisps than their straight counterparts.
But one key observed difference between the sexualities was that straight men are more likely to mumble and slur their words compared to gay men who were more articulate.

Still no gay gene…
Given all of the voices and accents she has, I am certain that Harris is a gay man.
I recently had dinner at a restaurant where I was served by a waiter I immediately pegged as queer. voice was one clue.
He must have sensed my thoughts because he began to reference his girl friend
Trutht the Thienth.
What about Kevin Spacey?
Wait for that lispth. It’s a dead giveaway.
In other news, water is wet.
Faaaaaabulous.
I get major gay vibes from Walz.
MAJOR.
Oh, and the minor male alleging that Walz performed oral sex on him after taking him to an Indigo Girls concert and then a gay bar doesn’t help.

Must be nearly thirty years ago, my wife and I stopped in to have breakfast in a famous (now notorious and infamous) homosexual town in the Northeast.
As we were having breakfast, there were two men sitting at a table and we were idly wondering if they were homosexual, and we couldn’t tell from their conversation they sounded completely “normal”.
The door opened and two guys they knew came in, and it was like flipping a switch-they changed to “gay talk” with all the inflections in the right places, and we nearly fell out of our chairs!
I guess the vocal aspect is turned on and off as needed!
I once knew a salesman from an Australian company, a big, crewcut, good looking rugby player kind of guy. He really had one hell of an Australian accent, and I liked him immensely!
Well, I went to a convention and saw him talking to a guy, so I went to walk over to say hello, and as I got closer, I could hear him talking to the guy in an absolutely zero accent voice...he could have been from Pennsylvania!
When he turned and saw me, he reverted into his Aussie voice! I didn’t hold it against him-he was a salesman, and...everyone has an angle of some kind! I guess that was his sales angle...:)
In looking back...I and thinking of the “everyone has an angle” theory, I concluded these two men having breakfast were selling something too...
I have often wondered if it is something on the autism spectrum, esp as so many gay men have also had speech therapy in adolescence.
Then another man came up to him, and they shared a long kiss on the lips.
I quietly excused myself and left.
Studies, however, have shown homosexual men don't have an increased rate of lisps than their straight counterparts.
Gaydar is a thing too.....
French words have to be spoken with a French accent.
Spanish words have to be spoken with a Spanish accent.
Humans need to have the ability to switch pronunciation.
Next thing they’ll discover is that gaydar is real!
In my informal observations, and having recently come from a resort who specializes in gay weddings so the place was packed with them ... they tend to have noticeably good posture, walk with their hips (I can’t explain it), and pronounce their words clearly.
