High pitched, extended vowels and incredibly articulated: so-called 'gay voice' is a real phenomenon, researchers say.
Two science YouTubers have scoured studies behind the theory that homosexual men have a unique twang that transcends aspects like culture and upbringing.
Mitch Moffit, a biologist, and Greg Brown, a science teacher — who are both gay — explored what exactly constitutes a 'gay voice' and what might cause it...
They found that analysis comparing the pitch of straight and homosexual men's voices found key differences in how they speak.
Mr Moffit explained: 'Results find that gay men speak with higher pitch variation meaning that their range from low to high is much more extreme than straight men.'
Mr Brown added: 'Gay men were also found to have longer vowel durations for "a", "i", and "u" — they hold these vowels longer in general when they speak compared to straight men.'
One interesting aspect of these pitch analyses was that the results weren't language specific and were replicated across English, French and Dutch.
'The gay voice expands beyond language and isn't just the words or culture we engage in,' Mr Moffit said.
Mr Brown also highlighted a specific way the 's' sound seemed to be spoken amongst gay men.
'Gay men are also more likely to hold their s sound for longer than straight people,' he said.
He highlighted how this is contrary to the so-called 'gay lisp', a perceived quality of gay men's speech where they misarticulate the 's' sound as 'th'.
Studies, however, have shown homosexual men don't have an increased rate of lisps than their straight counterparts.
But one key observed difference between the sexualities was that straight men are more likely to mumble and slur their words compared to gay men who were more articulate.

In other words, an affectation.
Largely that sounds true.
It’s less the actual voice and pitch than HOW they speak.
Never mind the mannerisms.
A friend told the experience of engaging some homos at a Hechinger’s or such back in the day when he was young adult. This “couple” was looking for window frames and dressings. When they came to some certain type one of them began bouncing up and down and clapping exclaiming “I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT”, to which the worker couldn’t help but start laughing.
They complained and the manager scolded him. But also privately mentioned it was understandable!
As the friend stated, they’re not ”feminine”. They’re insane children. If a woman behaved this way you’d think she was crazy!
I, for one, was not shocked at the reports about him.
Whether there is or is not, it’s a defect. Something is defective.
Except for the just plain insane who think they have to play at something. As in the trannies now. Or those today who deliberately choose it just to be vengeful about society.
Most non-gay men know all of this, it’s called gaydar and it’s instinctive. Add in some of the other visual cues like overly manicured nails and hair and the gaydar accuracy is impressive.
They adopt that tone (like actors do accents) but not every guy who has it is homosexual.
That normal people can imitate it argues against an inborn trait.
He’s a very good actor.
A pervert and freak, but good at faking normal.
That’s right. It’s a behavior.
My former neighbor Sylvia was born and grew up in the UK.
I had to call her at her parents’ house in Suffolk.
Some woman picked up the phone and spoke in a strong English accent.
I said I needed to speak to Sylvia.
“Brian, This is me, Sylvia.” followed in her American voice.
Not gay, homosexual!
Lindsey Graham was having his nails done at the time of this report and was unable to comment.
I'll have to reign in my first impressions
You can tell the innate homosexuals by the way they talk.
Is Michelle Obama married to a homosexual? The cook isn’t talking.
By that logic almost every man born and raised in North Carolina would be a homo.
Anybody listen to Andy Kim??
Just watch a Wayfair, or any commercial anymore, and you’ll be able to recognize it.
You hit it on the head- they are advertising their sin, they are proud of their sin and want everyone to know it. There is nothing inborn about it, they practice talking that way for a reason, the one you pointed out. Even effeminate males learn to talk effeminantly.
