A teacher at the center of a longstanding dispute over recognizing a student's transgender pronoun has been jailed for a third time for violating a court order to keep him away from a school.

Christian evangelist Enoch Burke,... has been objecting to using the student's preferred pronouns and new name, arguing that using their preferred pronoun violates his religious rights.

Following his suspension, he continued to show up to the school in an attempt to teach lessons, resulting in a court injunction that barred him from the school grounds.

He has twice previously been incarcerated at Mountjoy Prison...for breaching the same court order. On Monday, he was again found in contempt of the order after continuing to visit the school.

Burke told the judge: "You will answer to God for imprisoning me for my religious beliefs," The Irish Times reports. Burke denied he is in contempt of court..

Burke is an evangelical Christian, as are other members of his family, who have supported him since he was first suspended...

In a statement to Newsweek, his brother, Josiah Burke, said that his brother "has spent almost 400 days in prison" for refusing to use the student's preferred pronouns and name....Burke said he was still employed by the school and continues to receive a salary.

He had been arrested outside the school, which had taken disciplinary action against him two years previously, over his reaction to being asked to call a transitioning pupil by a new name and the pronoun ‘they’.

Judge Nolan told Mr Burke he did not want him to be in prison, and advised that ‘the way to get out of prison’ was to tell the court he would abide by the order to stay away from the school.

Judge Nolan asked Mr Burke on ten occasions whether he would abide by the order... However, Mr Burke refused to do so.

The judge said Mr Burke’s job was to answer the question, while Mr Burke said the judge must uphold the Constitution.

Pronouns are one thing—they are based on biology and nature. But a student should be called by whatever name is on their record, and typically students ask to be called by a nickname or other alternative. That is nothing new.

You mean you would think that everyone should pack up and leave - even if forsaking years of tenure - when a new PC rule is introduced, rather than fighting it. Yes, that surely should be the way for those in a land of the brave. So rather than fighting such, true conservatives. must seek employment elsewhere when Wokeism seeks to purge undesirables, and gov. pressures employers not to hire non-PC workers, thus effectively placing economic sanctions on true conservatives as Wokeism has its ways. In addition, if you actually read the article, as yet, Burke said he was still employed by the school and continues to receive a salary. Final status evidently is not yet settled.
