Voter registration gains provide a good omen for Trump in pivotal Pennsylvania
The Washington Times ^ | October 3, 2024 | Seth McLaughlin

ERIE, Pa. — Democrats have been losing voters in Pennsylvania over the past four years, and Republicans are salivating over the prospect of former President Donald Trump recapturing the biggest swing state in the Nov. 5 election.

Nearly 300,000 registered Democrats have dropped off the rolls since 2020, and Republicans have netted about 50,000 new registered voters in a state that President Biden won by roughly 80,000 votes.

In Luzerne County, near Mr. Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Democrats held a 20,000 registered voter advantage in 2020. As of last week, they trail Republicans by a few hundred votes. Mr. Trump won the county in 2020 and is expected to steamroll it this year.

“We have flipped the county red,” said Gene Ziemba, the county’s Republican Party chairman. “So not only are we going to win, we’re going to smoke them.”

The change in registration is almost all on the Democratic side. Luzerne County had about 106,000 Democratic voters in 2020 and about 86,000 in the latest tally on Sept 23. Republican registration rose from 86,000 to 87,000. Independent and other third-party voters stayed roughly the same.

Democrats’ numbers slid from about 4.2 million to 3.9 million statewide. Republicans gained about 50,000 voters to reach nearly 3.6 million. Independents showed the biggest movement, with about 95,000 new voters, climbing past 1.4 million. ....

....

Although many analysts are fixated on polling data, the registration numbers offer an alternative look at political strength.

That has generally been good news for the Republican Party nationwide.

Republican Party registration has grown faster than the Democratic Party in the swing states of Arizona, North Carolina and Nevada — where voters register by party. Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia, the other battleground states, do not require party registration.

Voter registration gains by the Republicans look very good. Now, if the Republicans can put some good poll watchers in place to keep a close eye on election officials' misconduct, Pennsylvania could end up in the Trump bag.

Trump is returning to the place he was shot at, Butler PA on 5th Oct and speaking at 5pm ET. Very conveniently, PA Democrat administered voter registration system is having a system maintenance at the same ******* time, lasting throughout the rest of the day.. So that Trump voters can't register

Asterisks mine.

Pennsylvania once had the oldest population. This was a huge pool of FDR "Democrat Forever" voters who would not be swayed by logic. They had a visceral attachment to the old Democrat party. Those people are mostly gone now.

There are several poll watching groups working to train and encourage several thousand republicans here around philly. They meet and train regularly hope that helps. but with the centrailized counting of mail ins it’s fairly easy to just run the democrat batches thru twice. As with all voting procedures in this country there are no audit controls within any of the voting systems. automated, paper, whatever.

Right you are. Unfortunately, many of their children and grandchildren still believe that the Democrat Party is the party of the working man.

Well, that hasn’t been true since 1970 or so. Today’s Democrat Party shamelessly exploits the working man to benefit the welfare folks. When will these traditional Democrats see the light? Only after they experience great pain. And we’re not there yet.

Then how did Reagan win it twice? I guess these were the Reagan Democrats?

Democrats are going to have to find a way to cancel this election aren’t they? Would that surprise anyone at this point?

Yep. Reagan used his charm to win over a lot of soft Democrats. I doubt if he got many votes from the old-time FDR Democrats. But Reagan sure did win over a lot of folks in the middle.

And that’s my gentle criticism of Trump. He’s too much Patton, and not enough Reagan. I’ve mentioned that here previously, only to be told that Trump must be Trump.

Well, okay.

I was raised in a hard Democrat household (grandfather 24+ year local elected official); nevertheless cast my first Presidential vote for Ronald Reagan (1980).

Same here. Democrat family, so I registered democrat. Unfortunately, my first ever presidential vote was for Carter,
but I thankfully came to my senses and voted for Reagan both times and then Bush. I officially switched to Republican when Clinton ran. Never regretted the switch.

The Amish are all registering and voting this time, largely due to the fact that the feds are trying to throw an Amish farmer in prison for selling raw milk. They are all voting for Trump and that’s a huge population.

Just as long as they DON’T vote by mail. I noticed the Post offices in my right wing area (0% minority) have all new staffs, black women and guys with blue hair.

To your point, the postal workers union endorsed the putative PUTATUS.

Folks, if you wouldn’t send cash through the mail, why would you send something as priceless as your ballot??
