U.S. Port Congestion Builds as Historic Dockworker Strike Enters Third Day
Breitbart ^ | 10/03/2024 | Simon Kent

Growing lines of container ships continued to line up outside major U.S. ports on Thursday as the biggest dockworker strike in nearly 50 years entered its third day.

The choke points are threatening shortages of everything from bananas to auto parts and are anticipated to grow in coming days if no resolution is forthcoming.

Reuters reports no negotiations were scheduled between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and employers, but the port owners, under pressure from the White House to hike their pay offer to land a deal, signaled they were open to new talks.

Most of the Docks are owned by Chinese Companies. Do you think they engineered a strike to hurt the US?

I personally don’t give a crap about a Union whose President (whom they support) has threatened to cripple their own (ostensibly) country for a 70% pay raise.

I say give them the money they want. Give them what they ask for.

Then, while they go contentedly about their work getting 70% more in wages, work to completely automate the entire process (AS THAT JOB SHOULD BE IN THIS WORLD OF TECHNOLOGY) then lay off every single one of the sons-of-bitches and put them out of work.

This isn’t the 1930’s anymore. They want to cripple our country, put all of us into a depression, so they can keep their obsolete jobs for a few more years? They think they have their hands on our neck, and can do whatever they want? Screw them.

Hard-Hearted? You bet. But it is nothing-NOTHING compared to what those 45,000 Longshoremen are going to do to hundreds of millions of Americans who are inconsequential to them.

They should be absolutely inconsequential to the rest of us. Let’s play this game.

This kind of nonsense wouldn’t be tolerated by a real President.

Just look at Reagan and the air traffic controllers... same thing here.

Kick them out, replace with military, and start hiring civilians to replace military.

The Biden-Harris joke of an administration has proven they cannot handle one crisis at a time. Now they have three and are absolutely paralyzed.

No....Biden will be our "savior". He already got his money from the Unions...

I'm giving him until Friday night to use Taft-Hartley. The 80 days will land it right in Donald's lap.

Reagan could fire the air traffic controllers because they were GOVERNMENT employees. These longshoremen are not.

I would ask all Freepers to please educate yourselves so you don’t post stupid sh!t on this website.

Due to the national security nature of the work, they can and most likely will be ordered back to work.

I’m starting to believe more and more that this is a staged “strike” for political purposes, by the politicians.

The dock workers won’t lose anything in the long run, and get a vacation to boot.

The ports are still operating with 1970s technology and labor practices. Very costly and inefficient. Better to accept the loss, unload in MX and Canada and automate the ports.

Unions stagnate industries and businesses and eventually drive them out of business thru refusal to innovate and evolve as businesses have to.
