Ford Motor Company is hoping to boost sales of its electric vehicles (EVs) by giving away free at-home charging stations, executives announced this week.
“Auto shoppers say they’re more likely to buy an electric vehicle if they could fill up at home. So we’re going to make it easy for our customers,” Ford CEO Jim Farley wrote on X:
If you buy or lease a new [Ford] electric vehicle, we’ll include a complimentary home charger. This is part of something we’re calling the Ford Power Promise, which is about giving our electric vehicle customers convenience, peace of mind and expert service. [Emphasis added]
Those buying or leasing a Ford EV in the fourth quarter will receive a free at-home charging station and installation. Should the offer do well, Farley said it could be extended into the next year.

The cost is coming out of the executives’ wallets, right, right? Oh, you mean these FREE charging stations are really added to the customers’ sales price.
If they are losing $30,000-$50,000 per EV sale, they should pay people $10,000 not to buy them.
The only acceptable “charging station” would be one that I don’t plug in anywhere.
are they handing out diesel generators?
Gas, coal, wind, solar, natural gas, thermal or nuke powered stations.
Translation = Some idiot production planner at Ford bought upwards of 50,000 charging stations in anticipation of sales of cars that never materialized, and now they are stuck with them. I’ve worked for several companies that had similar situations. One held a meeting about it titled, “Let’s get these monkeys off our backs”
It’s like Ford selling combustion engine cars and trucks without gas tanks.
Who in their right mind would charge an EV in an attached garage while their family slept?
And added to their electricity bills.
the new corporate directive is to figure out ways to lose money faster while fighting climate change and appeasing the Washington liberals.
and a fire extinguisher. a fire extinguisher?
what. no fire extinguisher?
FORD, say it isn’t so... will have to wait til this sinks the stock price to buy back in after this nonsense.
Most of the charging stations in my are have been vandalized and are inoperative. It’s free copper for thieves.
Whoop-de-doo. These are likely 120v chargers, which take an eternity to charge an EV. From what I’ve seen, you have to put in a separate 240v circuit to get even a semi-reasonable charging time, and I believe that takes a different charger as well.
This is nothing but sucking up to Biden & Co. and to appease the insatiable FedZilla.
Free charging stations?!?
Where will these stations be hooked up? That location will need to be inspected and approved before, during and after installation. Also, home installation may required an additional load-handling meter and electrical utility box. That will also require licensed electricians with their hourly charge rates.
I'm skittish about charging my cellphone while I sleep.
Sounds about right to me.
The best “charging station” pumps liquid hydrocarbon fuel into your tank in a couple minutes.
I much prefer to pay somebody else to own, run, and maintain these “charging stations.” Why the hell do I want to do somebody else’s job in my own home.
It’s bad enough you have to empty your own shopping cart, bring your own bags, push the cart to your car and load your own groceries into the car. All those things used to be done by the supermarket companies.
It will be the cheap 110 volt charger that takes 4 days to charge
Home charger? So it’s the current 110 garage outlet and it takes two days to charge the car.
