The storm surge, wind damage and inland flooding from Hurricane Helene have been catastrophic, flooding neighborhoods, stranding residents and destroying homes in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.
More than 130 people have been killed, according to The Associated Press.
Helene, which made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region Thursday night as a massive Category 4 hurricane, was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Big Bend on record.

Family in Florida is ok. One brother got his power back yesterday. All are sending me photos of heavy destruction. St. Pete beaches were hit very hard, and included deaths. Cedar Key and Steinbatchee are gone. Many deaths there, too. These stories won’t even make it into the National news, as there is destruction everywhere that IS in the news.
So many people lost everything.
Biden won’t do anything, but how can he? He’s a potato head, and this destruction is right up the alley of those who hate America.
Protect the newcomers and send more money to an unwinnable war in Ukraine.
A friend just returned from Europe, and he said that over there, they want us to get Trump back. It’s WWIII without him, for sure.
Oh my!
I’m sorry for your loss. I have friends in the mountains of Boone, NC that are trapped in their home due to fallen trees and washed out roads, and relatives of Friends who are missing in Asheville NC.
Every day I see more and more pictures of devastation. It’s heartbreaking!
Sadly, it will take years to completely recover from this storm. And Biden/0bama won’t be much help.
Praying for you and all who are suffering from Helene.
Why isn’t the lack of help front and center with every news agency? Still more cover for the Democrats, who create problems, and don’t fix them?
One of the morning shows, with Hoda, never even mentioned that Trump was in Georgia yesterday. They just showed a clip of Biden saying Trump was lying. The corrupt media truly is a wing of the Democrat Party, 100%.
The problem is that folks bought property in flood plains.
The media is ignoring it as well as the feds in DC.
It is flyover country.
Doesn’t affect them so they don’t care.
They bought beautiful properties in idyllic mountain valleys next to beautiful flowing rivers. Then came 20-30 inches of water in 24 hours and what happened is very predictable.
I have to disagree with Greenfield somewhat. You can’t blame FEMA for the initial loss of life. They come in after the fact and throw money around..
When a 500 year rain comes, everything is a flood plain.
One of the problems is that the dams didn’t hold.
True, they weren't constructed for these 100 year events.
No, that is not a problem. The dam was over topped bud did not fail. Dam failure was a press come on
They truly do not care about flyover country in any fashion other than getting votes to remain in power.
America needs to wake up to the fact that we are through as a country if Donald Trump isn’t sworn in January, 2025.
The devastation ensuing now will be far greater than the East Palestine train derailment, the Maui fires, and the aftermath of Helene combined.
This country is going down fast.
Will enough of us be awake to save it?
They were certainly breached.
FEMA is not and never has been a first responder.
And people who depend on the government to save their butts are likely to find out the hard way that it’s not a good idea to do that.
The problem isn’t that they bought in a flood plain.
The problem is that so many were unprepared or poorly prepared in case of a flood.
That’s not on the government.
That’s on them..
Other than prayers, how can I help you? Is the Red Cross available in your area? Or is there a better place for me to donate?
That’s awful. I’ll add you to my prayer list. My brother got his back on yesterday and his went off Thursday night (Gainesville, FL).
This wasn’t a 500 year flood.
