Employers are Firing Gen Z Graduates and Don’t Plan on Hiring More

Companies are hiring and firing Gen Z graduates faster than ever, creating a very miserable work experience for everyone involved. The rapid firing of Gen Z in multiple companies is not surprising as employers have spent the last few years complaining about how this particular group of employees is hard to work with, but the scale at which this is occurring does not set a good precedent for the future of work.

The Gen Z mass firing was revealed in a recent survey that showed that six in ten employers have already fired college graduates who were hired this year. One in seven of these employers also claim that they will refrain from hiring similar recent college graduates next year as well.

According to a survey by Intelligent, 75% of companies reported that some or all of the recent college graduates they had hired this year were unsatisfactory. Companies are quickly firing these Gen Z workers because they feel these employees are “unprepared for the workforce, can’t handle the workload, and are unprofessional.” These complaints have been levied against the group for the last few years but so far, managers have been able to work around the problem rather than eliminating the workers.

The primary reason for the rapid firing of Gen Z in companies is said to be lack of motivation among the employees—50% of respondents cited this as the main reason. The other factors include lack of professionalism, poor organizational skills, poor communication skills, challenges with accepting feedback, lack of relevant work experience, and poor problem-solving skills. The dearth of technical skills, poor cultural fit, and difficulty with working in a team were a few of the less cited reasons on the list.

that is mostly due to sky high taxes and unbridled government spending to prop up the deadbeats and now the illegal invaders.

Yep. I’m a tail end boomer and we had to count back change in our head through the drivethru because the register couldn’t keep up.

They only teach putting condoms on cucumbers and “transitioning” in school. Oh and to hate all republicans and any older person with experience and wisdom.

I’ve watched this exact progression of “attitude” for 12+ years. MANAGEMENT is directly responsible for the piss poor crop of employees. MANAGEMENT has been stressing breadth of experience instead of actual hard earned expertise. TODAY, those in MANAGEMENT are nothing more than employees collecting “checks in the right boxes” to move up. This crop of employees totally Abdicated ALL responsibility/accountability for their decisions. WOKE has been around a very long time. Just hitting peak Crap now!!!

Again, high taxes, over regulation sending jobs overseas, robotic work, etc., unbridled gov’t spending.

LOL that’s true, it seems every graduate expects to be making $100k+ and sees realistic salaries as an insult. Colleges instill that expectation, so I’d argue it’s mostly their fault.

Yep and therefore there was a meme going around on the inet with a sign in the door “closed again; Gen Z employee hired last week quit b/c she couldn’t have her boyfriend hanging around the entire time.”

That’s why the people who deliver flowers to our house are all white guys and gals in their 60’s.

Been going on for years. If your bill is $9.51 give them $10.01 and they go deer in the headlights.

We hired a local kid advertised as a “hard worker” on the nextdoor app (photo of him pushing a push lawnmower)
We hired the kid for one day (16 yr old) to get rid of demolition material by loading it on the back of a dump truck. It was an unusually warm day, granted, but this kid stopped work every 5 minutes and stopped when my 56 yr old husband took a biz call on his cell. He looked MISERABLE and told my husband “I HATE to sweat.”

We offered more work but we never heard from him again. LOL Today’s generation are cream puffs. They would never bail hay or do anythign associated with manual labor except for the (true) Amish kids.

“Plenty of immigrants.“

Even the immigrants aren’t the immigrants of old who came to work and contribute and become AMERICANS. These people get government subsidies and send money back home.

This brings up the question:

Since we have determined that the seeming majority of GenZ are useless and well nigh unemployable, what is to be done with them?

I’m not saying that firing people who don’t know how to (or don’t want to) work is bad. What I am saying is that we’d better come up with a solution, or we’re gonna be in a world of hurt.

It’s a known fact that people, especially those who feel like they’ve been rejected by society, will oftentimes become much more radical in their thinking. They become willing to follow anyone that wants to overthrow those ‘in power’. Take a look at many of the Communist revolutions...you’ll see it powered by those who feel ‘downtrodden’...many of them young people.

We used to have training and apprentice programs.

I am not shocked Z doesn’t know what work is. Nothing in THEIR LIFE has prepared them for that expectation.

However, they vote. They are a rather large block of voters.

As always, you had better figure out what to do with the young kids, or they will figure out what to do with you.

> I was at a fast food restaurant and the cashier was a young lady that could not do a simple calculation… <

Could be the lady’s fault. But more likely it’s her school’s fault.

I taught in a public high school for decades. Around the year 2000 the central administrators declared that all mathematical computations had to be done by calculator ONLY.

Notice that I capitalized that the “only”. A friend of mine taught middle school there. She accidentally broke the rule by giving out times tables for her kids to memorize.

The principal went nuts. Get those times tables back, she was told.

It’s just crazy. So now you have kids who can’t do 7x9 in their head. And 10% of 150? Without a calculator, forget about it.

Exactly.

But with today’s information economy, job hopping is a red flag.

“Oh, you moved a job three times in ten years... I see you like commitment. Next!”

Still, I would rather a guy say “I moved to a better opportunity!” I have never penalized anyone for doing so, even though HR hates it when I don’t try to manipulate them to stay.

I go into that McDonald’s on occasion. You can see black kids in the kitchen hustling, making food. Not a single white kid. I find that curious. Do they hire only black kids? Or maybe no white kid wants to work at McDonald’s anymore. YMMV.

I see only White kids working at the Dairy Queen nearby. They hustle meal and dessert orders. I see only older (40+) Hispanic workers at the McDonalds nearby. They hustle. I see only Black workers at the Wendy's nearby. They hustle.

I believe the staff profile all depends on the manager and they prefer to hire from their own racial and ethnic groups.

Discrimination? Meh! Waddaya' gonna do about it?

I won’t argue about the illegals but there’s another big issue you didn’t mention, government labor laws. In my experience that’s a bigger problem for youngsters trying to get employment at an early age where they could learn work ethics.

Parents won’t let their kids do that work.

And a lot of lawn mowing businesses dove into that work, and displaced the teenagers. A good lawn guy will do better work than Jane or John down the street, and with enough they can keep it up for a while.

For fast food... All I will say you have to be very careful what store you end up at. If you are the odd group out, it can be dangerous.

Yes they will unplug your life support machine to charge their Iphones. And the constant need for surveys on customer service. Never had that until recent years where you are asked to write a review or survey every.little.thing.

The vast majority of Gen Z needs constant ego stroking and affirmation. As with the way I was brought up, I only write reviews and do survey when there is poor service.

In fact, I’m thinking of doing one now. Just called Home Depot commercial account to report their invoice paying portal is down. Got disconnected after IVR he!! Called the main customer service line and got a young (not truly) Amish woman who transferred me to the wrong number and I was right back to where I started; with no way to report the outage.
