News Majority of Americans Admit to ‘Self-Silencing’ on Hot-Button Issues, Survey Finds
The Daily Signal ^ | 25 Sept 2024 | Rebeka Zeljko

Nearly two-thirds of Americans conceal their political opinions on contentious issues in public, according to a new Populace Research/YouGov survey.

Most Americans, 58%, said they cannot express their private opinions publicly, and 61% admit to “self-silencing” their political views, according to the survey. At the same time, Americans publicly claim to have higher trust in our institutions than they do in private.

Only 36% of Democrats publicly said that they trust the government to tell the truth, but only 5% agreed with the statement in private, according to the survey. Similarly, 42% of Democrats publicly report that they trust the media to tell the truth, while just 9% reiterated this belief in private.

Skepticism is even more apparent among Republicans, with 14% publicly saying they trust the government to tell the truth while just 2% hold this belief privately, according to the study. At the same time, just 16% of Republicans publicly trust the media to tell the truth, while just 3% agreed with the statement in private.

Just 37% of Americans publicly believe that we live in a mostly fair society, while just 7% privately agree with the sentiment, according to the survey.

While polarization is at the forefront of many political conversations, the study reveals Americans privately agree on many issues.

The vast majority of Americans, 90%, are privately on the “same side” of roughly two-thirds of political issues ranging from abortion to school choice and legal immigration, according to the survey.

When it comes to defunding the police, 28% of Gen Z and 27% of Democrats publicly supported the movement, according to the survey. However, only 2% of Gen Z and 3% of Democrats privately support the same movement, which parallels the 1% support among Baby Boomers and Republicans.

The Populace Research/YouGov study surveyed 19,879 respondents from May 16 to June 24.

This is very telling. The Silent Majority still exists.

This is why Trump under polls.

1/3rd of all Americans say they fear losing their jobs/livelihood if the speak their minds politically.

As long as voting remains private, they'll vote their own interests, and not those of the Left-Wing culture and media celebrities.

I admit that I’m reluctant to voice an opinion in this social climate. These democrats get violent and they’re up in your face about it. I think it’s more wise to keep silent than to try to bicker with those donkeys.

This is why Trump will win. 61% means polls=BS.

The history of humanity is the battle between 99% of the people who are busy providing for their families against psychopaths who want all the money in the world and total control over everyone.

The worst part though is that is discourages good people from wanting to get involved in politics.

So our elections come down to the choice between The Turd Sandwich and The Giant Douche.

It’s not that I can’t. I found out a long time ago you can’t win an argument with crazy people. So why bother.

There’ve been a number of occasions where I was drawn into a discussion over beers and the whole bar was like “yeah you right.” I was trying to keep the voices low but the other guy was pretty animated in his disgust for the karmela candidacy. More than one of these ‘random’ people loudly expressed a desire to crawl over broken glass in bare knees to vote for trump.

But ya know, this is a decidedly red county up here surrounded by a sea of blue.

Too many people don’t know enough to have an opinion. They borrow other people’s opinions.

I have a friend who drug up the “Trump said neo-nazis were nice people”. We showed him the clip where Trump says “I’m not talking about them”. Even when shown the facts, he still repeats it because everyone else is repeating it.

I am non-committal when it comes to polls, surveys or just talking to/listening to seemingly Democrat people. I am saving my statement for the ballot box as I believe many in this country are. I really do want to see them get down on their knees and wail to the heavens when he wins.

A couple days ago, in the smallish Michigan town I live in, A Trump volunteer drove by and saw my regular plain Trump yard sign. She stopped and asked if I wanted a Trump Vance 2024 sign added? I said yes. She also gave me a card with contacts if I wanted a huge Trump sign.
Later, on a local News and views Facebook site, some discussion started about Trump yard signs being given to those who wanted them. Also it was mentioned that there were Trump volunteers downtown that day until 7pm handing out Trump signs by a closed down business,
Boy the hateful anti-Trump posting comments started appearing on the site, directed at those who were positive for Trump. All the lying Dem talking points and screeching about how could anyone support such an evil man. etc etc. unsolicited and unwanted. Later, a police report was filed as a Harris supporter went to where the Trump signs were being given out and started photographing cars, license plates and people who stopped to get them so “they could have a record of who was supporting Trump for later”
What the hell?

Truly good people (aka, Christians), many of whom won't even vote. This is because they are casting a vote for the man, and if the man does not represent their morals, values and ethics, that's bad.

2 John 10-11: If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Trump has a reputation as a compulsive womanizer and (many) Christians are repulsed by that.

Democrats/liberals/communists (all the same thing) think someone expressing an opinion that differs from their opinion is the same as a physical attack. They are therefore justified in hitting, and perhaps killing that person because they are acting in self-defense. I saw a video of some jerk roundhouse kicking a woman who was just holding a sign in front of an abortion clinic. His justification was self-defense.
