Secret Service agents didn’t sweep the outskirts of Donald Trump’s Florida golf course where his alleged would-be assassin was hiding because the former president’s visit was an “off-the-record” plan, the embattled agency’s acting director admitted.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly set up a sniper’s nest on the edge of Trump International West Palm Beach and hid there undetected for nearly 12 hours before Trump, 78, teed off on Sunday afternoon, federal prosecutors said.
Acting Secret Service head Ronald Rowe Jr. said Monday that agents didn’t mount an intense search of the perimeter because the 45th president’s round wasn’t on his official calendar.

Also, the clump of trees he hid in is well known to everybody as a place papparazzi use.
Missing that would be like missing out on checking the grassy knoll in Dallas when any Pres tries a car tour.
It is either incompetence or malice.
> the former president’s visit was an “off-the-record” plan <
It is evidently the job of the Secret Service director to explain failures using the least believable excuse possible.
How long would it take for a team of agents on carts to sweep the outskirts of the golf course? Maybe 20 minutes? Did they even start a sweep?
I've seen them fumble around trying to holster their weapon (not very successfully). But maybe that wasn't covered in her two hour video training for protecting Trump at Butler, Penn.
I doubt that. The guy isn’t going to run that kind of risk unless he knows the reward is obtainable.
I have thirty-plus years’ experience of dealing with government employees across all levels of government and many offices. My impression is that if you could graph general competence then thirty years ago the average person, I dealt with was about like the average employee anywhere. But over time the “competence” meaning their ability to understand and to do their assigned job has been steadily going down. I suspect a lot of issues. Hiring for skin color or sex. Hiring because they are vets or some special category the agency is incentivized to hire. Also, they did away with IQ tests and competency exams. I would have thought that high priority jobs like Secret Service agents would maintain high standards. But laws passed by congress to do this or that with labor have a global effect. At this point how do you get from total incompetence back to competence? Laws forcing “discrimination” meaning discriminating against competent people because they don’t meet the other incentives like color, sex, religion, etc. would need to change. Can you imagine the outcry?
The flip side of the coin is that the people needed to create the Leftist Utopia aren’t competent to do that job. They think they’re the most amazing people in existence and they’ll tell you that. Remember Obama telling people he was the smartest guy in the room, and he could do all their jobs better than they could? Yep, enough people reported he said that multiple times that I believe he believes it. That’s the Dunning Krugger effect writ large. That’s the typical Lefty I see in government.
God gives. God takes. Thank God for small favors.
“Other than stand around and look the other way..what is it that the SS does?”
Look good in suits and sunglasses. That’s about it.

“The perp was found and arrested by LOCAL sheriff. Is this correct?“
Yes, the assassin panicked and slipped past the patsy elimination team who was likely looking on when the arrest happened.
Maybe he suggested Trump play at the course?
A local citizen was on the sidewalk near where the perp was holed up waiting to shoot Trump. When the USSS started firing and the bperp fled to his getaway Nissan (Xterra?), the citizen saw th commotion ans snapped a pic of the car with its license plate. They called it in to police who (sheriff), pulled the escape vehicle over nearly a county away AND brought the citizen with to identify the perp as who they saw fleeing the scene and getting into the Nissan that they then photographed. I guess the perp didn’t even challenge why he was being stopped when they pulled him over, just gave up.
> They use thermal imaging, or at least they should be using it. <
I never thought of that. Excellent comment. Thermal imaging plus dogs would be a very effective combination.
But I guess the Secret Service doesn’t have time to hold DEI classes and also train their agents on proper security measures. So something has to give.
Must have been a rental vehicle? Aren’t Nissan Xterras quite expensive? Where was this would-be shooter getting his funding???
Kind of like deer hunting. Your trail cam shows a fifty point buck at your stand a couple of times a month. All you can do is sit in it for days on end and wait.
Military doctrine..
Once is happen chance, two times a coincidence, three times is enemy action.

Was their “radar” down?
Too lazy to take a walk
“It seems God stepped in if the Secret Service is telling the truth about noticing a barrel sticking out of the brush. Normally, you wouldn’t stick a barrel out any until you are ready to shoot. And seeing the end of a barrel at that distance is very fortunate.”
If they knew it was a problematic spot they might have been looking there.
I'd fire this loser so fast his high and tight haircut head would spin.
