The man suspected of trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump laughed and smiled during his first court appearance on Monday morning.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly attempted to kill Trump with an AK-47-style rifle with a scope. He reportedly hid in bushes at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach and was about 400 yards away from Trump when Secret Service spotted the rifle and opened fire.
Cameras were not allowed inside the courthouse, but Fox News confirmed Monday that Routh repeatedly smiled and laughed during a conversation with his court-appointed lawyer before the hearing started.
Another reporter permitted into the courthouse, Brooke Chau, posted, “Routh had slicked back dirty blonde hair, a stoic look, he stared at reporters and was handcuffed wearing a navy blue jumpsuit.”
During his appearance, Routh said he makes about $3,000 a month but has no savings or assets aside from two trucks he has back in Hawaii. The suspect also said he sometimes supports his son.
The hearing before Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe only lasted eight minutes.
Routh, who is reportedly a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, was charged with two counts: possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon, and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, CNN correspondent Dianne Gallagher reported.
The first charge carries up to 15 years of prison time, with a possible five-year sentence for the second charge, ABC 11 notes.
Trump on Sunday responded to the attack — which marked the second attempt on his life in just nine weeks.
“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!,” Trump said. “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”
Routh has a bond hearing set for September 23. The suspect will be formally arraigned at the end of the month.

Over/under before he is Epsteined
Since he was given probation for his last big charge years ago of possessing a machine gun - any bets on probation again? He smells like a DS feddie.
That smile goes away when a handler tells him he is a loose end.
He will shortly succumb to Oswald-Epstein Syndrome. It will be “sudden” no doubt.
He’ll plea down to Illegal Parking.
How about First Degree Attempted Murder seeing as this CIA/State Dept. asset sat for 12 hours (premeditation) with his assassination kit, waiting for President Trump to come close enough to take a shot at him.
And who was it from the government that tipped this asshole off that President Trump would be playing there that day, as the golf game has been reported to not have been pre-planned or on his schedule for that day.
Pffftttt. He was simply watching out for errant gators that may have posed a threat.
Nope.
He's facing Jack Ruby junior.
He will disappear never to be seen again................
😁...........................
It’s illegal to shoot gators in Florida without a license and a tag!...............
Routh has to quietly be taken to a place to where he will fess up to who is giving him orders..
He is on a high, he is finally somebody, you could see it in that photo of him in the cop car.
2 counts? If he was a J6 defendant - or Trump - they would have found 6, 8, 10, or 34 counts to charge him with.
He can say he was hunting Canada Geese and shipping it to the ‘migrants.

I would be shocked if charges like the above are not added. They have him cold on the filed charges so that lets them hold him until they get their act together on the others.
The DOJ is malicious, not stupid.
no charge for attempted murder?
They may “discover” some the same time as the red MAGA ball cap.
He’s about to get the treatment Stalin gave to Kirov’s assassin.
