FReeper Canteen ~ Sunday Chapel ~ TITLES AND POWER ~ 15 September 2024
Serving the Best Troops and Veterans In The World !! | The Canteen Crew

TITLES AND POWER

Now I see why powerful people often wear sunglasses--the spotlight blinds them to reality. They suffer from a delusion that power means something. They suffer from the misconception that titles make a difference. They are under the impression that earthly authority will make a heavenly difference. Can I prove my point?

Take this quiz:

* Name the last ten Heisman trophy winners.
* Name the last ten winners of the Miss America contest.
* Name eight people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
* How about the last ten Academy Award winners for best picture...
* or the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do? I didn't do well either. With the exception of you trivia hounds, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday too well. Surprising how quickly we forget, isn't it? And what I've mentioned above are no second-rate achievements. These are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

* Think of three people you enjoy spending time with.
* Name ten people who have taught you something worthwhile.
* Name five friends who have helped you in a difficult time.
* List a few teachers who have aided your journey through school.
* Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.

Easier? It was for me, too. The lesson...the people who make a difference are not the ones with the credentials, but the ones with the concern.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

Extra prayers for Israel...

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Did you give your back the day off?

Busy work day today...LOTS of mail to handle, but the garn checks are now done. Late getting home because of addressing problems for 2 entities I’ve tried to get fixed for months now, and more to do this evening.

Howdy, Kathy.

I hoped it would be another pretty day there today but no such luck. The only ones enjoying today’s weather are the ducks. LOL

Another day of rain to the east and to the west but not here. *sigh*

Heck, my back’s had several days off. LOL Still waiting for Hubby’s cousin to take Champ to the “mower doctor” get fixed, so I can’t mow. I couldn’t have mowed the past few days anyway because of the wind. I’d have been covered with so much grass, it would have looked like I was wearing a Ghillie suit. LOL

Sounds like your day was “fun”. At least the garn checks are done and out of the way. I wish you luck getting everything done to be ready for Monday and MAYBE finding a little “you” time this weekend.

September 15

“Ain’t No Grave”

Bible in a Year :

If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

1 Corinthians 15:14 Even as country music legend Johnny Cash was approaching death, he was determined to keep making music. His final album, American VI: Ain’t No Grave, was recorded in the final months of his life. The title song, Cash’s version of a hymn by Claude Ely, gives insight into his final thoughts as we hear him sing of his hope of the resurrection. His famously deep voice, though weakened by his declining health, declares a powerful testimony of faith.

Johnny’s hope wasn’t simply in the fact that Jesus was resurrected on Easter Sunday morning; he believed that one day his own physical body would also be resurrected, and he’d rise again.

It’s an important truth to affirm because even in the days of the apostle Paul, people denied a future physical resurrection. Paul strongly critiqued their argument when he wrote, “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” (1 Corinthians 15:13-14).

Just as the grave couldn’t hold Jesus’ body, one day all those who have faith that He was resurrected “will be made alive” (v. 22). And in our resurrected bodies, we’ll enjoy all eternity with Him on a new earth. That’s reason to sing!

Reflect & Pray

What comfort does the hope of physical resurrection bring to you? How’s it an expression of faith?

Jesus, thank You for giving me the amazing hope of a future in heaven with You.

Find ten reasons to believe in the resurrection.

OMG!!!! I just had a front row seat for a hawk trying to get dinner. I was throwing out corn for about 30 ducks and all of a sudden heard something from the sky...no clue what it was. A warning cry from other ducks? The hawk? They all took off for the creek. I watched him, several times, try to get one. The only reason he did not was because of his wing span trying to navigate the trees.

My guess is his wing span was at least 5’...they looked HUGE!!! He sat on a tree stump at the edge of the creek, but finally flew away. How far? Who knows...the ducks are all siting on the bank under the trees and very nervous.

Wow! Glad the ducks all managed to escape the hawk! That was a close call.
Yes, hawks are quite large. There are a couple of red-tailed hawks that live here and hunt on the farm regularly. One was sitting on a telephone by the driveway when I got home this evening and it flew off as I drove in. Probably scoping out the front field for mice or rats scurrying through the corn stubble.

Poor ducks. Dinner was interrupted and they aren’t going to feel comfortable leaving the safety of the creek for a little while.

Howdy, luvie.

Was the weatherman correct about the temp dropping a little today?

The weatherfolks here sure blew the weekend forecast for us. NOAA too. They FINALLY cancelled our flood watch this afternoon after having it up since Thursday and us getting almost no rain. I finally got a few drops this evening.
