WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is zeroing in on the policy goals closest to his heart now that he’s no longer seeking a second term and will visit New Orleans on Tuesday to promote his administration’s “moonshot” initiative aiming at dramatically reducing cancer deaths.
The president and first lady Jill Biden will tour medical facilities, then, at Tulane University, will help announce $150 million in awards from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. Those will support eight teams of researchers around the country working on ways to help surgeons more successfully remove tumors for people facing cancer.
The teams receiving awards include ones from Tulane, Dartmouth College, Johns Hopkins University, Rice University, the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Washington and Cision Vision in Mountain View, California.
Before he leaves office in January, Biden hopes to move the U.S. closer to the goal he set in 2022 to cut U.S. cancer fatalities by 50% over the next 25 years, and to improve the lives of caregivers and those suffering from cancer.
Experts say the objective is attainable — with adequate investments.

Why bother? Every time they come up with a cure, it gets hidden.
$150 million ????
WTF ever
I know several companies who blew threw that last year.
$150 million isn’t going to do anything
The War on Cancer started in Richard Nixon’s first term in 1970 and since then untold Billions have been spent on a “Cure” and yet we are still using the same treatments today, Chemo and Radiation. I am sure someone real treatment has been found that works but will never see the light of day given Cancer is such big business.
If there was a cure and a chance at total remission with simple treatments, how many hospitals, caner centers and people would be out of a job, at least 500,000 or more, say even 1 million. What would Big Pharma do, lots less profits. Lower medical costs, savings all around. Can’t have that can we?
>Send $150 billion each time to the money laundering of Ukraine, but a paltry $150 million for this.
Neither being (Constitutionally) legal *shrug*
Course, most of the (R)N(C) would be clapping in support, passing both
Media darling “Doctor Jill” sure has been silenced and swept into a basement closet, huh?
$150 million? That isnt a moonshot, that isnt even enough to get out of New Jersey! Having survived cancer myself, and seeing the costs involved, I dont think there is enough being spent. After 2 surgeries, I was up over $250k, and that was 15 years ago. If you figure economies of scale, I dont wee how a measly 150 mil will do much.
.
Biden told crowds that he cured Cancer.
This money goes to Biden cronies as salaries. Simple
Read RFK Jr’s book about Fauci.
The probably effect of 100 million in grants will be to feather the bed of Fauci’s PI brownshirts.
Is that a moonshot Joey, or a money shot? Splooge!
The usual grifters for grants. Throw more money at it. Rule one, everybody dies eventually. Rule two, medicine can’t fix rule one.
How much money can off shore banks hold?.
The FDA has on occasion paid for all the research on some cancer drug only to give the patent to some Big Pharma company to sell at extortionate rates.
I agree. $150 million in today’s health care costs is about equal to maybe a month of any hospital’s total operating budget.
All spending begins in the House....
Unless you are an Emperor.
