US to send jets and warships as Iran threatens Israel
BBC ^ | 8/3/24

A Pentagon statement said the new deployments would "improve US force protection... increase support for the defence of Israel, and ... ensure the US is prepared to respond to various contingencies".

The deployments would include additional ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers, it said. The US military had also intensified deployments before 13 April, when Iran launched an attack on Israel with drones and missiles. Israel and its allies shot down almost all of roughly 300 drones and missiles that were fired.

Israel has not commented directly on the strike which killed Haniyeh. But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country had delivered "crushing blows" to its enemies in recent days, including the killing of Shukr in Beirut.

He warned Israelis that "challenging days lie ahead... we have heard threats from all sides. We are prepared for any scenario".

Earlier, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said the US did not believe escalation was inevitable. "I think we are being very direct in our messaging that certainly we don't want to see heightened tensions and we do believe there is an off-ramp here and that is that ceasefire deal," Singh said.

Is the plan to get WW3 going in earnest to provide an excuse to suspend the election?

The plan is to have so much force in the area that the Iranians go to plan B, which is to send a strongly worded diplomatic note.

As we know from the Ukraine war, if nothing else in history, being weak invites attack. Once the attack begins there’s no way to keep it limited to just party A and party B. Cut off the oil from the Middle East and we’ll feel the pain right here in the US because the oil market is one giant pool everyone in the world draws from. You want $200 dollar per barrel oil after decades of the Democrats cancelling new refineries and pipelines? A massive deployment of “F*ck-around-and-find-out” is likely to prevent WWIII rather than start it.

Maybe that’s the black swan. Drum up war- driven patriotism for Biden of Harris or whoever.

Good opportunity for China to take Taiwan.

If they're at all serious they'd send the Marines. Not just your current run-of-the-mill garden-variety Marines, but America's best, brightest and otherwise unaffected U.S. Marines.

We might see $200 oil anyway as the American dollar goes into crash mode.

The greenback will not crash against other national currencies, but we’ll feel it as it crashes against real commodities like crude.

Thirty-five trillion in debt and growing exponentially is also something that makes us weak and vulnerable. This vulnerability does not go unnoticed by the rest of the world.

Of course if we made a commitment to develop and use thorium energy, much of this in the ME would be moot.

China has the ability to do great damage to Taiwan, but taking Taiwan is a different story.

Crossing 100 miles of open ocean with enough forces and logistics to be successful is a very complex and difficult operation.

The Russians are having quite an issue with pesky Ukraine, and they don’t have to cross this distance. Look what a challenge crossing the dnepr river has been and its width is measured in meters not miles.

The Chinese will have to do this with air power and naval power alone. Their large and largely untested ground forces will be of no help, additionally air and sea operations over long distances which would include air dropped and sea landing forces is quite complex and difficult esp with untested forces

Not saying xi wont try, like Putin I think he sees his window of opportunity closing, and if he is operating on false information like putin did he just may.

If he does then he will face the same situation putin does, if he fails he is gone one way or the other

It's easy to agree but I can't.

What we've seen in the Ukraine with how drone technology has radically changed the face of modern battle tells me that if the Taiwanese have been paying attention and "droning up", they will be able to deliver a devastating defensive blow to any PLA amphibious landing force.

Biden, incoming, disgraces us in Afghanistan; outgoing, signs us up for WW3.

We can’t even manufacture our own meds now, never mind develop thorium energy.
We are headed for a catastrophic reset, and “Biden” (whoever) still has ~6 months to work on it.

Good point. I can imagine the kind of menacing diplomatic talk from the Biden administration to Tehran now: “Really, if you take hostile action before November 5, you are likely to get Trump back in the White House. Neither of us want that, do we?” Meanwhile, Netanyahu chuckles to himself, grimly, as Israel buys time while girding for a coming conflagration that seems inevitable.

I’d like to know how many times I’ve seen that headline in my 3 score years.

“US to send ships to Mideast”.

“Of course if we made a commitment to develop and use thorium energy, much of this in the ME would be moot.”

Absolutely thorium would be the way to go. The Russians have been funding the antinuclear groups for decades with massive success. Possibly some of that funding will go away now because of Ukraine war needs.

However, the US uses very little Middle Eastern oil. Thanks to fracking, and those antifracking groups are Russian funded, we are largely independent. Due to a rider on some legislation passed several years ago the President can halt the export of oil without seeking approval. Just the stroke of a pen. So, while the rest of the world will fall into chaos the US will be fine. That’s no thanks to the Democrat infested Global Warming cult. It’s in spite of it. If we did halt the export of oil while our allies are in political and social meltdown it would be nearly impossible to build up ties again and a lot of friendly governments will fall into the hands of unfriendly leaders. The US has fewer forces in overseas deployments since before the first world war. Those that are in the middle east are there basically to stop the Western world from going into meltdown. We will eventually be gone but Europe has seen the writing on the wall and finally are taking steps to save themselves, mostly because Trump has assured them, he will let them face-plant if they don’t take steps now. Just the fact Trump is running and might be president is forcing the Europeans to get off their socialist butts and go to work on solving their own issues. (Go Trump!)

BTW, every time the price of oil goes up a certain number of poor nations suffer some percentage of population loss due to starvation. If you think our borders are under stress now, wait until half of the world is suffering famine and all they have to do to survive is make it to Mexico’s northern border. Let’s hope president Giggler hasn’t promoted Buttigieg to the post of Border Czar.

Have no fear my fellow Americans Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are on the job. These are two powerful and strategic thinkers. America and Israel are in safe and capable hands. They will handle this just like they handled our border and economy.

Declare martial law, confiscate weapons and continue robbing the treasury. We have millions of hostile Muslims in this country also.

The concept of the Fall elections being cancelled or suspended gets frequent mention here and elsewhere, as if it is a serious possibility or a matter of course if we are at war. In actuality, is there a defined mechanism for the summary suspending or cancelling of elections here due to war? Has the US ever suspended or cancelled a Presidential federal election event due to war or anything else either? I’m guessing that the circumstances would have to be so horrific as to mean the vast majority of people no longer cared about holding an election or were dead and unable to opine at all?
