The North Carolina Democratic Party is suing the State Board of Elections in an effort to stop the We The People Party—and thus presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—from appearing on the state ballot later this year.
According to CBS 17, which states it received a copy of the lawsuit last Friday, the North Carolina Democratic Party argues that the We The People Party was established as a way to reduce the number of signatures Kennedy needed to appear on the state ballot. The number of signatures required for a new party to qualify for the ballot is less than one-sixth of the number required for independent candidates.
News of the lawsuit is not entirely surprising. When the North Carolina State Board of Elections met earlier this month to discuss whether to approve the We The People Party, associated with the campaign of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and the Justice For All Party, associated with the campaign of Dr. Cornel West, board chair Alex Hirsch, upon approving the We The People Party petitions, openly invited future legal challenges to Kennedy’s candidacy if proof that the candidate used the party line to circumvent signature requirements existed.
“I am going to reluctantly vote to recognize We The People, even though I believe there has been subterfuge,” Hirsch said at the time, adding: “If someone wants to challenge that in court, they are welcome to do so. I think they have a good case.”
Saving Democracy!
By keeping people off the ballot.
So Democratic of them!
Very “Protect our democracy” of them.
How “weird” of them.
the D party claims to be “democratic” but in truth it lies about almost everything and everybody......and now we see that even its very name is just another Big Lie — seeking to prevent people’s access to the political process
They figured out what many of us have been saying for a long time—RFK Jr.’s candidacy is bad for Democrats.
Without a doubt.
This whole mess could have been avoided had the DNC just welcomed RFK Jr to participate in the primaries. Let the voters decide.
But as others here have noted, the Democrat party is not very democratic.
There is nothing democratic about the Democrat Party.
L
If RFK, Jr. did indeed do this, then I ask if it is lawful. Does state election law permit this? If so, I do not see the problem.
“The issue is not the issue. The revolution is the issue.”
We never learn.
Gotta protect ‘OUR’ democracy you know.............
“..There is nothing democratic about the Democrat Party...”
^THIS^
“Their democracy” is an immediate, dire threat to our Constitutional Republic.
Democrat Party = Communist Party and should be banned from every facet of American politics.
Without a doubt. Very few Democrats are going to vote FOR Biden-now Harris; but being weak minded they actually believe all that "Trump=Hitler" stuff and so they'll be voting AGAINST Trump.
Full disclosure: I vote AGAINST candidates often.
So?
He wanted to be on the ballot.
He COULD have filed as an Independent and jumped through a whole bunch of hoops to collect the number of signatures required.
Or he COULD have filed as a new party and collected the number of signatures required for that.
Where was the law broken??
Sometimes that’s the only reason to vote! Vote to deny a candidate of a certain party power. Giving power to the opposing candidate just means he/she is less dangerous and tolerable with certain minimal boundaries. That’s not an endorsement!
It sounds like it is lawful.
The number of signatures required for a new party to qualify for the ballot is less than one-sixth of the number required for independent candidates.
I wonder if the “We The People” Party is fielding other candidates besides US President/VP? That might explain the legislature’s reasoning in requiring fewer signatures.
They know they can’t legitimately win this election. We must keep the pressure on.
Because, you know...democracy!
