Fresno restaurant owner hit with $21,000 PG&E bill for one month, nearly double his rent

A Fresno small restaurant owner says he has had enough after his PG&E bill was nearly double his rent.

Manuel Perales, the owner of Yosemite Falls Cafe says his June utility bill was nearly $21,000. His rent? $10,000.

“How do you pay that bill?" he said.

He says it doesn't make sense to receive that astronomical bill even during the hottest months of the year.

He's not the only one outraged with the increase of PG&E bills.

He shares that one of his servers told him her monthly bill was $1,000.

"This is a young lady with two kids. She goes, you know, we can't afford that," he said.

Daisy Saldana, a server at Yosemite Falls Cafe says, her bill last month was around $700.

"It has been hot but that is a little too extreme, $700," she said.

For May, her bill was at $400.

Luckily, she says she splits it with three roommates, or else it would be her whole paycheck going towards the electricity bill.

For Yosemite Falls Customers, it's the same story.

Dale Manasco said, "It's ridiculously high and especially when you're on a set income. I don't have the best-paying job and what I make, seems like it's going to the PG&E bill."

Other customers who overheard a FOX26 News crew speaking to Perales say, they couldn't believe his utility bill was double his rent to keep his business running.

That, on top of inflation and minimum wage recently going up.

HE should have all his business records for the past 7 years. HE can review & compare with prior usages.

“I think I’ve mentioned it before, but a lot of these high bills seem to be using the occasion of “inflation” just to add to it what they feel like. “

Rates are regulated. Utilities can’t just add “what they feel like”.

"Fresno restaurant owner hit with $21,000 PG&E bill for one month, nearly double his rent"

California not only needs to rewrite its poorly written constitution to make it more difficult for alleged organized crime to run the state, but all Democratic and Republican Trump supporters in the country need to do the following for oppressed California tax and bill payers.

Trump supporters need to support him with a new federal lawmakers in November, not only so that he will not be a lame duck president from the first day of his second term, the new Congress actually doing its duty to guarantee each state, California in this example, a republican form of government.

"Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphases added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

Finally, let's not allow the anti-Trump media try to fade our memories of what we witnessed on July 13.

I wonder if the rates are so high because of the huge demand for electricity from giant computer server farms; or, because responses to environmental/global warming concerns come with much higher costs for power generation; or, because the utilities have high transmission costs to deal with omnipresent wildfire dangers and resulting disaster costs; etc...

Do the tech companies get special breaks on electricity costs compared to residential and small business customers?

Rates are regulated. Utilities can’t just add “what they feel like”.

They can if the blue state government is on board with raising rates so that higher energy prices changes consumer behavior to save us from warmageddon that only more leftist control can save us from.

“Rates are regulated. Utilities can’t just add “what they feel like”.”

In the early days of my career my industry at the time (cable television) had rates regulated by localities and states. I worked for a nationwide cable tv company and traveled all over getting rate increases.

One of my duties was creative accounting to prove we needed the rate increases.

In some states I played those accounting games with public utility commissions.

I had no problems getting approval for those rates.

It is like anything else—if you master the rules of the game you will win almost every time.

Example: Our company had many different subsidiaries. I just allocated costs as needed—even though they had very little to do with cable tv operations. The only time I got caught doing it was a small time mayor in Texas got in my face about it and would not back down.

It turned out that in addition to being the mayor he was also a CPA.

Lol.

Thats what it cost to have the porch light on when they put me on Time of Use, I didn’t even have the AC finished yet and it was still cold outside.

“We’re an all-electric home. Wifey refuses to let gas on the property. We can afford it, but just because we CAN afford something doesn’t mean we enjoy it. “

Both the wife and myself agree our prized possession is our continuous hot water heater fired by natural gas water heater that kicks out 6 gallons / min at 140F. We pay about 1/4th the cost of electricity and we can fix the price at will for a year.

Yeah, I did all that.

To ensure a price that doesn't change I always select these options/filters on the PA Power Switch app when searching for a supplier:

Term Length- 12 mos
Rate Option - Fixed
Terms & Conditions - No fees.

I then sort results by lowest price.

I shop once per year and do the same for my gas supplier.

Worth repeating......"Don't have insurance, don't or barely speak English, can't read road signs, unfamiliar with the traffic laws and customs, from cultures that do every thing they can to avoid interacting with police, lest they be beaten or shaken down (i.e. hit and split)...need I go on?"

20w x 24hrs x 30days x 0.3$/kwr = $4.32

Come to Los Angeles county and get time of use billing for your electricity and you will see how frikkin ridiculous it really is. Now they make it very difficult to change, but you can still change to Standard Billing if you are persistent.

Thanks!

20w / 1000 x 24hrs x 30days x 0.17$/kwr = $2.45

Paying for the massive lawsuits filed over the fires they claimed PG&E caused with faulty lines in heavy winds!! I have a 600sq. ft. Condo my electric bill 3 years ago in the summer was $250.00 with the AC, NOW it is $525.00, I think I am going to have to break down and buy a mini split, the cost of running them is supposed to be far more economical but the damn things cost $7,000.00 installed!! I am looking into purchasing the unit in Mexico and then having someone install it!! I LOVE the weather in CA. HOWEVER this state definitely SUCKS!!

Then he needs to look into any noise restrictions for a generator running in scenic Fresno.
