“I think I’ve mentioned it before, but a lot of these high bills seem to be using the occasion of “inflation” just to add to it what they feel like. “

Rates are regulated. Utilities can’t just add “what they feel like”.

They can if the blue state government is on board with raising rates so that higher energy prices changes consumer behavior to save us from warmageddon that only more leftist control can save us from.

“Rates are regulated. Utilities can’t just add “what they feel like”.”

In the early days of my career my industry at the time (cable television) had rates regulated by localities and states. I worked for a nationwide cable tv company and traveled all over getting rate increases.

One of my duties was creative accounting to prove we needed the rate increases.

In some states I played those accounting games with public utility commissions.

I had no problems getting approval for those rates.

It is like anything else—if you master the rules of the game you will win almost every time.

Example: Our company had many different subsidiaries. I just allocated costs as needed—even though they had very little to do with cable tv operations. The only time I got caught doing it was a small time mayor in Texas got in my face about it and would not back down.

It turned out that in addition to being the mayor he was also a CPA.

Lol.
