On the other hand, if she thought she could for a moment put a dagger through the heart of America...

It could get even more interesting. He withdraws from the race, and then Kamala fails to win the nomination at the convention...and then Biden resigns, making her POTUS. Why would he do that? Because he’s Joe Biden, agent of chaos.

If Michelle is in the mix, she’ll receive near unanimous support.

Kennedy was never going to be the nominee. Lyndon Johnson would’ve moved heaven and earth to make sure he wasn’t the democrat nominee in 1968 Kennedy got a very late start and the only major primary one was California when he died.

Historians debate whether RFK would have been the nominee—but I was politically active even in 1968 (yeah I am old) and at that time I and most everyone I knew believed he was going to be the nominee and the next president.

We could have been mistaken but that was our view at the time.

His speeches were leftist of course but like JFK he was an outstanding public speaker,

Humphrey and Nixon were not even in his league.

"How is going to get replaced without relinquishing his Presidency?"

Biden will announce that he's quitting the race -- not
running again, He'll serve out his term until Jan. 20, 2025.
The Dem convention will then fight it out amongst themselves
to see who gets to run against Trump.
It's going to be a riot!

The Dem floor fights plus the Pali/communist demonstrators
in the streets causing trouble -- it'll be the one of the greatest
political messes in American history. Enjoy.

I understand now. He’s just running out his term and not doing anything, not that he was doing anything during his term.

Nah, Hillary won't let her turn go by willingly...wonder if she can get a weekend pass from GITMO to attend DNC convention.

My guess is that they are going to pay off Kamala as well. They have huge donors who would love to keep the government gravy train going. I honestly don’t know if any of their candidates can beat Trump.

She does not want to run. She wouldn’t do it at gunpoint.

“How is going to get replaced without relinquishing his Presidency?”

replaced as candidate for re-election, NOT resigning the Presidency ... this is what LBJ did ...

At the end of this daisy chain is probably one anonymous source who is probably drafting a speech that Biden refuses to give.

“someone said in another thread if they choose anyone but Harris, they cannot use the $110 million in biden’s campaign coffers...no clue if that is true”

that appears to be true ... i studied the FEC rules about what is and is not allowed, and it looks to me like one candidate is not allowed to shift donated funds to another candidate ...

Well I am 69 and was 13 that year and had been following politics since I was about five or six years old. That was a tough year to live through. There are certain parallels between 68 and 2024.

Yesterday I decided to re-watch Richard Nixon’s acceptance speech in 1968 and I was struck how relevant that speech would be if given today . Trump would certainly have to give a speech like that tonight.

We have an unusual political season that is in many ways unchartered. While Joe Biden may will withdraw from the presidential race it’s going to leave a rather chaotic mess for the Democrat party because they will have a hard time justifying bypassing Kamala Harris, if they go to an open convention and pick someone else.

I guess the next few days will tell the tale.

The drama in 1968 did not even peak until the Democratic Convention.

This year the date is August 19-22.

The party is just getting started my FRiend.
