Historians debate whether RFK would have been the nominee—but I was politically active even in 1968 (yeah I am old) and at that time I and most everyone I knew believed he was going to be the nominee and the next president.

We could have been mistaken but that was our view at the time.

His speeches were leftist of course but like JFK he was an outstanding public speaker,

Humphrey and Nixon were not even in his league.

Well I am 69 and was 13 that year and had been following politics since I was about five or six years old. That was a tough year to live through. There are certain parallels between 68 and 2024.

Yesterday I decided to re-watch Richard Nixon’s acceptance speech in 1968 and I was struck how relevant that speech would be if given today . Trump would certainly have to give a speech like that tonight.

We have an unusual political season that is in many ways unchartered. While Joe Biden may will withdraw from the presidential race it’s going to leave a rather chaotic mess for the Democrat party because they will have a hard time justifying bypassing Kamala Harris, if they go to an open convention and pick someone else.

I guess the next few days will tell the tale.
