Donald Trump has picked Ohio senator J.D. Vance as his running mate, choosing a grassroots favorite ahead of more seasoned political operators.
The former president left it until the last possible moment, using all his showman skills to leave the world guessing, before opting for 39-year-old Vance after the Republican National Convention had already begun in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Vance swept to national attention when he published his bestselling memoir 'Hillbilly Elegy,' in 2016, the year Trump was elected president.
He has been a senator for less than two years but has established himself as one of the fiercest defenders of Trump’s 'Make America Great Again' agenda, especially when it comes to foreign policy, trade and immigration.
The former venture capitalist and U.S. Marine had initially been critical of Trump.

Wow ... doubling down on back talk, to the boss.
Trump is a genius.
I am not.
You mean his in-laws? His wife grew up in San Diego.
“Trump is a genius.”
No doubt about it.
“If I had to choose between a pro-abort republican and pro-abort democrat, I might go 3rd party. There are tens of millions like me.”
Fortunately there are also tens of millions who are not like you.
oopss...2 years...thanks
Being a Marine doesn’t automatically prevent you from being a milquetoast millennial. Remember Bradley Manning (yeah I know he was Army) and the Vindman brothers. The Left has shown they are willing to do ANYTHING, up to and including killing Trump, so unless he chooses those around him more wisely his second term is doomed. They’ve set the bar. They’ve chosen the field. We MUST respond in kind or LOSE!
You sure about that?
“IMO a mistake.”
Who would you have recommended?
Leading pro-life groups tell LifeNews.com today that they’re pleased with President Donald Trump’s selection of pro-life Ohio Senator J.D. Vance has his vice-presidential running mate.
Carol Tobias, the president of National Right to Life, called Vance an “excellent choice.”
“National Right to Life believes Senator Vance is an excellent choice for vice president,” she said. “He is committed to promoting the right to life and protecting both women and their preborn children.”
Tobias said Vance opposes the Biden-Harris push for a sweeping federal law allowing unlimited abortion for any reason until birth.
Like President Trump and the majority of Americans, Senator Vance believes tax dollars should not be used to pay for elective abortions at home or abroad and is a co-sponsor of legislation in the Senate, she added.
She said Vance shares President Trump’s commitment to nominating qualified judges who will interpret the Constitution as written and not legislate from the bench and he also supports assisting pregnant women and families in need as well as community-based pregnancy help centers, unlike Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who seek to undermine the work of these community-supported centers."
Interesting. Trump must think the election is now a lock.
The reason I say that is that Vance will be seen (and attacked) as a very polarizing figure, while someone like Ben Carson, or Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, would be less so. OTOH, Vance is young and has fire in the belly.
Worries would be limited experience in running a large organization, and Vance seems very naive on foreign policy / how foreign policy plays out in the future.
In any event, as other posters have said, Vance looks like a good choice to carry MAGA into the future. IMO he’s likely as good a choice as anyone other than a 10 years younger, more determined, Ben Carson (who doesn’t exist, SFAIK!)
A fair point, OTOH, Vance has shifted a number of his views since. As the campaign progresses, we’ll see more of who he is today.
I do not like JD Vance. I think he has no core principles.
He recently came out in support of higher minimum wages.
I will still vote for Trump, of course, because the alternative is unthinkable to me, but I do not trust Vance in the least.
And so far, I'd say Trump is batting 1.000 since Vance is orders of magnitude better (more MAGA oriented, etc.) than Pence is or was.
Obviously, there are dozens, if not hundreds of leadership positions in the fed gov that must be changed. A long process ahead.
The stats say on average Indians are the highest paid ethnic group (ie., non-white) in the U.S. Some of them must be doing something right...
Because gay marriage doesn't involve murder and compulsion to murder, as black-genocide-masquerading-as-Roe-on-demand-abortion did.
A Roman Catholic SCOTUS also wanted to undo the calumny that a Protestant SCOTUS had wrought in Roe. Sorry not sorry, that's a fact, Jack.
Unfortunately, the RC SCOTUS doesn't view gay or Obergefell the same way. RC's look at gay marriage as though why shouldn't gays suffer through marriage the same way as normal people do? For better or worse (lol), that ennui doesn't rise to even a fraction of the true evil that was Roe.
For example, on-demand Roe unavailable to Stanley Ann Dunham probably saved Obama's life -- it was his decision to become a homosexual. Therefore extinguishing Roe >>> Obergefell. Not excusing it, but explaining it to you.
I think you are naive to think to think the Democrats are going to let it go at that. They have already said they are going to pass a law, and I wouldn't be surprised if they already have the votes.
I think you are a Democrat to think like that. An unconstitutional law under Dobbs will not survive the current court. Changing the current status requires another Scotus decision or a constitutional amendment.
Jurisdiction has been returned to the States. Unless the Democrats have the vote in Scotus, it does not matter.
Yes that’s a tough one as I understand that segment is basically what Google hires. Indians fresh off the boat.
