Blame the presidential candidates all you want—but this one is on us

Like everyone else, I’ve been reading about the abysmal prospects for our country after the presidential debate, and there’s one recurring theme: the problem is the candidates. This is simple and convenient, but I think it is wrong. One guy is clearly incompetent and the other guy is a jerk, but in any republic or democracy, the candidates reflect things about who we are as a nation.

You have to ask yourself how, in a population of over 300 million people, these two guys are the best we can do. Of course, the easy conclusion is that we have been beguiled by the system or the parties or the candidates. However, in a free society, the beauty and danger is that our government is indirectly and directly driven by us, the people. Our constitution starts with these three words: We the people. This idea was derived from the fact that our nation gets its power from the people, not from sovereign rulers or Congress. This is the foundation that our constitution and country are built upon, but currently, we, as responsible Americans, aren’t using our power when it counts the most.

I find myself in conversations with people griping about our political system. This seems to be ever more popular. However, nothing is going to change if more people don’t get actively involved in their government. The way to get change is not to sit on the sidelines and complain the way to get change is to get more qualified people to run for office or to get involved in our political system in some material way.

He's complaining that Americans are not stepping up to get involved in the political system and we are left with Trump and Biden. But Trump has done exactly what he wants, he got involved as a non-politician. And Trump has been essentially crucified for it.

Trump is the anti-deep state candidate.

Trump is the ONLY choice. This guy is a Putz. He’s one of the “at least there are no more mean tweets” crowd.

Trump has certain skills in excess of every American who has ever lived. What’s Brandon got?

Don’t lump Trump in with his opponent in terms of unsuitability or incapacity.

Hard to take this BS seriously. Everyone knows that the people have ZERO choice in the candidates. We are literally watching this play out right now with RFK frozen out, Kamala being pushed aside and the DNC jockeying for big Mike and a convention surprise.

The government chooses the people have the illusion of selecting.

I’m sick of this narrative that Biden’s main problem is his mental state. He has been a catastrophic president regardless of his mental state. That has become lost in all this.

That’s an excellent point that Trump the citizen selflessly gave up everything to try to fix the country. Trump is EXACTLY wha this author is calling for.

With a comment like that, “One guy is clearly incompetent and the other guy is a jerk, but in any republic or democracy, the candidates reflect things about who we are as a nation,”

have to say: it takes one to know one. A jerk, of course.

Or....

Realize our political system that drives our government is FUBAR and there is nothing to be done about it. We can't vote our way out of this.

You want change? Change begins with you. Change what drives and motivates you and leave politics to the fools.

Translation:

"Now that my candidate has publicly embarrassed himself before hundreds of millions of Americans, and conspicuously demonstrated his blatant inability to fulfill the duties of the office... maybe it's time that we just forget this whole, unpleasant chapter - this "debate" thing - and move on."

It is hard to see how they can put him back on stage. So it will be Trump and Kennedy and whoever the stand in is for the nominee.

The problem is people are too stupid to manage their own government. Our forefathers knew the risk and Dietrich Bonhoeffer figured it out. Dunning-Kruger is the explanation and Idiocracy is our future. We have more freedom and prosperity than Homo Sapiens can handle.

From the OP article: “You have to ask yourself how, in a population of over 300 million people, these two guys are the best we can do?”

#######################

This is how the Left deflects how bad Biden sucks - blame it on both Biden AND Trump, trying to equate the two.

Sorry, Leftards, only YOUR guy sucks. Our guy is GREAT, and will Make America Great Again.

So the most people voting (snicker) is not enough people getting involved?

And Trump is the jerk? There has been 50 years of nastiness, bullying, child groping, woman abusing, daughter showering, racism with this chomo the democrats so love.

One guy is clearly incompetent and the other guy is a jerk, but in any republic or democracy, the candidates reflect things about who we are as a nation.

No the same guy who is incompetent is also a jerk; the other guy is just a rich one-of-the-boys who is leading the "we're not going to take it anymore" movement.

Our constitution starts with these three words: We the people. This idea was derived from the fact that our nation gets its power from the people, not from sovereign rulers or Congress. This is the foundation that our constitution and country are built upon,

A return to this form of government and a turning away from the party hell-bent on totalitarian government is what this election is all about.
