Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is tipped to become the European Union's next foreign policy boss, but her tough stance on Russia may raise doubts as to whether she can represent views from across the bloc.
EU leaders' informal talks on Monday, their first since the European Parliament election, focus on the appointments for the bloc's top jobs, with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen expected to secure a second term and EU diplomats saying Kallas is in line for the foreign affairs role.
Kallas, who turns 47 on Tuesday, has made her name as an eloquent critic of neighbouring Russia and its expansionist aims since she became Estonian prime minister in early 2021.
An uncompromising voice in the EU and NATO for unconditional support to Kyiv and for containing Moscow, she led her country of 1.4 million people to become among the highest per-capita military donors to Ukraine. Kallas has been wanted in Russia since February for her role in removing Soviet-era monuments in her country.
Born in Tallinn, she is the great-granddaughter of the first Estonian chief of police as the newly independent country emerged from the Russian Empire after the First World War only to be absorbed into the Soviet Union in 1940. Kallas' mother was only six months old when her family was forcibly relocated to Siberia in 1949 along with 20,000 other Estonians. "Russia hasn't changed," she said last year on marking an anniversary of her mother's exile. "This evil lives on in Russia."

Russia isn't typically thought of as a colonial power. But it was and still is.
Estonia, my own country, went through Russia’s colonisation and occupation for almost half a century, up until 1991.
I grew up during the final years of Russia's occupation. My mother, deported to Siberia as a baby, suffered war crimes Russia inflicted upon far too many.
In theory, it was called peace, but it was peace on Russian terms – meaning mass atrocities, repressions, colonisation."

“On 14 June 1941, 10 205 Estonians, including infants and elders, were deported to Siberia by the Soviet regime.
Most of them died, only a few managed to return. But we remember them all.
Today, Russia uses deportations as a weapon against Ukraine”

Meloni and Kallas
Except now it's Ukrainians being deported.
This tired trope was debunked completely.
Meloni looks like Kamala Harris, but in white.
Give her a rifle and send her off to the front lines.
“Give her a rifle and send her off to the front lines.”
Look at a map. Estonia is the frontlines regarding Russia - especially with 296,000 Russians living INSIDE Estonia.
As a Russia lover, you have become a defacto terrorist supporter favoring the Houthi attacks on the US Navy.
I thought the US Navy left the Red Sea after losing to the Houthis...didn’t the USS Eisenhower strike leave the area?
Did a red nose and squeezy horn come with your Clown 🤡 suit?
There is a new word in the vocabulary...... Treaper.
A Treaper is a treasonous American who promotes the Russian support of Houthi Terrorists assaulting the US Navy in the Red Sea and the Hamas and Hezbollah attempting to destroy Israel.
Like you, they wear the black armband of treason
The IKE did in fact leave the Red Sea.
There are however several, total unknown to me, US Navy vessels protecting shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aeden. The US Navy daily destroys the tens of Houthi missiles fired at not only themselves but other commercial shipping as well.
There are several other navies acting in concert there as well. I’m certain there are Brit and Dutch navies for sure. The world depends on the Suez Canal for shipping and the Russia loving Freepers are in favor of seeing the Suez is closed by the Iranian surrogate Houthi
The globalist elite WANT a war with Russia.
She runs an insignificant country and has been threatening Russia, saying she wants to broke it into six smaller countries. Only an idiot doesn't understand what a stupid act of provocation that was.
Is that our job? Also, wouldn't it be easier to pay the Who Tees the standard rate just to go away?
>This tired trope was debunked completely.<
Debunked Jon? By whom....Sputnik? The world’s leading disinformation purveyor?
