GESTURES OF LOVE

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love . . . and weep with them who weep. —Romans 12:10,15

Cards...hundreds and hundreds of cards. Our mail carrier must have thought we were going for a world record. They came by the stack—day after day after day. It was just one of the many ways we knew that people cared for us as our family endured the painful first weeks after our teenage daughter Melissa died in a car accident.

But it wasn't just the cards that provided assurance of loving support...food came in so fast we nearly filled up the freezer. Flowers filled every corner of the house, especially sunflowers...Melissa's favorite.

People sent pictures of her, blankets with verses, memorial gifts to her school, and books...lots of helpful books on trusting God with a broken heart. Then there were the emails, phone calls, and personal words of hope and help...promises of prayer. Offers came to do anything we needed...all from friends following God's prompting.

Our aching hearts were lifted by these deeds too numerous to list, but too beautiful to forget. The love behind these expressions carried us through days heavy with sorrow.

Look for people in need and follow the Lord's leading. Help heal their brokenness with gestures of love. Encourage them for God's glory.

It was only a brief little note, Or a word that was prayerfully spoken,
Yet not in vain, for it soothed the pain Of a heart that was nearly broken. — Anon.

A little kindness can make a big difference.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Still hot and awful? It’s over 70 here, but the office was air conditioned and a bite chilly after a while.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

Howdy, Kathy.

I saw the temp posted in LH chat earlier and saw that it’s what you’d consider toasty up there today. LOL Your temp sounds delightful to those of us down here.

It got up to 96 here this afternoon. Ugh!

House of Worship

Bible in a Year :

Set up the tabernacle according to the plan shown you on the mountain.

Exodus 26:30

When Britain’s House of Commons was bombed in World War II, Prime Minister Winston Churchill told Parliament they must rebuild it according to its original design. It must be small, so debates would remain face-to-face. It must be oblong rather than semicircular, allowing politicians to “move around the center.” This preserved Britain’s party system, where Left and Right faced each other across the room, requiring careful thought before switching sides. Churchill concluded, “We shape our buildings and afterwards our buildings shape us.”

God seems to agree. Seven chapters in Exodus (chs. 25-31) give instructions on building the tabernacle, and six more (chs. 35-40) describe how Israel did it. God cared about their worship. When the people entered the courtyard, the gleaming gold and the tabernacle’s colorful curtains (26:1, 31-37) dazzled them. The altar of burnt offering (27:1-8) and water basin (30:17-21) reminded them of the cost of their forgiveness. The tabernacle contained a lampstand (25:31-40), bread table (25:23-30), altar of incense (30:1-6), and ark of the covenant (25:10-22). Each item held great significance.

God doesn’t give us detailed instructions for our worship space as He did with Israel, yet our worship is no less vital. Our very being is to be a tabernacle set apart for Him to dwell in. May everything we do remind us of who He is and what He does.

Reflect & Pray

What does your worship teach you about God and His love for you? What changes might you want to make?

Father, You’re worthy of my best worship.

96...OUCH!!

I’ll check the thermometer on the deck when next I go out. If I open the door the ducks will be right here. Momma of 4 and momma of 7 the younger were here when I got home from work, so I fed them.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
And a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Have you been able to work on your car lately?

Ouch is right! At least it started cooling off fairly nicely once the sun got close to setting. I was comfy when I went out to deadhead the petunias.
I keep hoping to see an end to this heat wave but it stays 90s across the board with each day’s 7-day forecast.

I wonder what’s happened to Momma of 4 the older. You haven’t mentioned seeing her in a while. Maybe she just didn’t like being around the other mommas and their kiddos.

I was going to ask if you’d hit 80. One of the LH chatters lives not too far from you and he said his thermometer reads 80. Toasty weekend for y’all.

Keep the Lord’s Day in the Lord’s way.

A blessed Fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Western)/Holy Pentecost (Orthodox)† to all!

†Orthodox Pascha was five weeks later than Western Easter. The numbering of Sunday will continue to be five weeks apart until next Great Lent.
