Dem lawmaker in tears after Republican says its unfair for Asians, Latinos to pay reparations
FOX ^ | 21 Jun 2024 | Chris Pandolfo

ACalifornia Democrat held back tears earlier this month when a Republican lawmaker said it would be unfair to make Asians and Latinos pay slavery reparations to African-Americans.

The exchange happened on June 11 during a meeting of the California Assembly Committee on Judiciary. The lawmakers were discussing SB 1331...

... Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez, a Republican from Santa Margarita... cited economists who analyzed the proposal from California's reparations task force and found it could cost $800 billion...."That's two and a half times the size of our entire state budget," she said. "To pay for that, you'd need a major tax hike unlike anything this state has ever seen before...."

This would be terribly unfair to those of us whose ancestors fought for the Confederacy and who did not own any slaves. The entire region was already plunged into poverty for about 100 years - meanwhile the Yankee slave traders in New England kept their slave trading profits.

Oh, the Communist bitch cried, eh? Well, try this on for size: none of my ancestors was in this country when slavery occurred, nor were they here for an additional 40 years. Instead, during the era of slavery here, they were being oppressed by one or another of the Czars of all the Russias, and when they came here they had the “honor” of being discriminated against because of their religion (we’re Jewish, in case anyone hadn’t figured that out yet), including my mother not even being able to get an application for Columbia’s nursing school in the late 1950s (she ended up going to Cornell, another Ivy League school, so it wasn’t because she wasn’t a good candidate…except that her last name sounded Jewish).

So this bitch can kiss my old, Jewish ass if she (and people like her) think that I will pay one red cent in reparations. I’d stop paying taxes altogether if something like that was passed in the District of Criminals, damn the consequences. That’s just Communism, something that my father’s parents ran from, which many of my grandfather’s siblings and their descendants were enslaved by for 3 generations, and which murdered my great grandfather. Bitch, I will do the extreme opposite of bending down in fealty to such a system - and, again, damn the consequences.

Now go cry some more.

There were blacks who had slaves, too.

Many of us have ancestors who gave their lives to free slaves, and who owned pŕoperty utilized by the undergŕound railroad. They risked their lives, and died. Why isn’t that reparation enough?

It was demonrats who fought for slavery to exist. If they want reparations, let them pay it.

Make the Hollywood jackasses pay the reparations. They can afford it.

That makes as much sense as any of the other crap those Californians are slinging against the wall.

If you've been paying attention to the debate, blacks in California are not demanding reparations for slavery.

They're demanding reparations for the economic harm caused by over a century of racism.

The economic harm caused by housing discrimination (denied the chance to benefit from the rise in real estate value), job discrimination, disparate imprisonment, police brutality, poorer school funding, psychic and emotional harm, etc., etc.

That was a great point. Another one is that more white Americans die in the civil war than any other war. Therefore it is the Union(Non slave owning) white families that should be getting reparations from the blacks.

Now this is what I really think. In actuality the event is in the past. Separated by generations. The future is only bright through forgiveness. And no reparations should be given to anyone. The only reason we are even discussing this today is because the left get its power by creating division.

Only DemocRATS should have to pay reparations since they were the party of slavery and the KKK.

Slaves were first brought
to the americas around
1619 when the British
established colonies.
From 1776 to 1865 is
89 years, not the hundreds
this nut ball claims.
Where’s the demand that
the British, or the african
countries that sold their
own people into slavery
pay reparations?
When the slave trade was full
tilt, the americas were
responsible for 3% of the
total of slaves sold
across the globe.
I figure the half million
union soldiers that fought
and died for their freedom
is payment enough.

“found it could cost $800 billion”

I say, leave the decision alone for 3-4 generations in the future.
By then, the cost would be 1.6 trillion.
Blacks would get a much bigger share.
Imagine how happy the current generation’s great grandchildren will be!

Or, go the other way and calculate reparations for only the first generation post-slavery.
$1000 each

It is also unfair for any Afro Heritage American to receive reparations if a DNA test reveals white genes.

The genes are reparations

That would sound about right. The wealthy plantation owners of the South and a few others owned slaves, the rest were just peons. Add to that all the white folks in the north and territorial west, and your figure of 1 or 2 percent is likely very correct.

Now figure in what percentage of slave owners are still alive to pay reparations and what percentage of slaves are still alive to be paid reparations and that figure is ZERO.

This bullshit is so racist it’s unbelievable. My ancestors were German and Canadian that came to the US well after slavery ended and settled in northern states that were not states during the war. My point is none of us ever owned a slave. Just why should we pay?

What about the hundreds of thousands of whites that fought in the War Between The States to end slavery, should their decedents have to pay?

And regarding the thread subject, Asians and Latinos. This is all just a scam at vote buying. Paying off living blacks that were never slaves will not solve the issue of people wanting money for nothing.

housing discrimination (denied the chance to benefit from the rise in real estate value)

Over a century? In 1950 California passed Article 34, mandating low income housing be required before new construction could be approved. The federal Section 8 program was created in 1978 to increase housing affordability for the low income and Proposition 13 capped property taxes. A significant housing crash/recession occurred in 1992. An influx of Asians and highly educated dot.com'ers followed and temporarily drove up market prices for housing, allowing home owners to cash out at a higher rate than expected, but equity was tanked again by the subprime crash in 2007 which led to widespread foreclosures across racial and zoning lines. Until a decade or so ago, the average salary for non-government, nonmanagement jobs in California ran about $10/hr part-time or $17-25K/yr and rents ran from $600-$2K/mo. Foreign investments since then, and urban hunger for a gentrified tax base to support increased infrastructure and social services for the growing poverty base has once again rocketed the cost of urban housing. But there's no guarantee another recession won't tank values in the future.
As for education, during the 60's in Oakland for instance, black white and asian students were each about 1/3 of the Oakland student population; 4 of 6 high schools had a racially balanced student body. Elementary schools had a higher disproportionate rate, but is that a result of racism, or a result of urban birthrate in each group? Today, the average annual expenditure on a high school student in Oakland runs around $17K per student.(Los Angeles spends over $24K per student)
Given the above, is it fair to claim racism alone denied'the chance to benefit from the rise in real estate value,' and fomented 'psychic and emotional harm' in only one segment of the population? California's history is somewhat unique, but also a mirror not only of the risk involved in real estate ownership, but also of the complicated social and economic struggles of dozens of small frontier towns in California transforming into major urban centers while accommodating an ever-growing populace with ever-growing social service needs.

What about affirmative action which served the black community for decades by hiring and promoting others over Caucasians purely based on skin color .

Rob Schneider described this tear-inducing California "reparations crap" accurately in his short talk at Turning Point USA last fall:

... these slave reparations are to be paid to people who never were slaves, to be paid by people who never owned slaves, in a state that never had slaves. That's like paying child support for a child you never had, to a woman you never f*cked!

“ The economic harm caused by housing discrimination (denied the chance to benefit from the rise in real estate value), job discrimination, disparate imprisonment, police brutality, poorer school funding, psychic and emotional harm, etc., etc. ”

What other country in the world has been fairer to those who are black? Look how their terrorism was excused in their BLM riots because of skin color. Affirmative action has given them an advantage in hiring and promotions for decades, to the disadvantage of whites? How is it that other races than black have been able to succeed in America? I think that needs to be answered by those in the black community who have succeeded. Why do black’s feel that being hardworking is bad because it means you are looked down upon as acting white? I have known and worked with and for some of the best individuals I know who worked hard and were successful.

It would also be unfair to those of us who had great-grandfathers who fought for the Union to free the slaves.

Exactly. What about all that spilled blood?

People also seemed to forget that California entered the Union in 1850 as a FREE state. No slavery allowed.

"In 1849, Californians sought statehood and, after heated debate in the U.S. Congress arising out of the slavery issue, California entered the Union as a free, nonslavery state by the Compromise of 1850. California became the 31st state on September 9, 1850."
