Conservative border hawks slam Trump’s college green card vow for foreign students

Former President Donald Trump has floated green cards for all foreign students who graduate from US universities and junior colleges in a podcast interview — prompting hardline immigration advocacy groups to lash out at what they called a “cockamamie proposal.”

“You graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country, and that includes junior colleges too,” Trump, 78, told “The All-In Podcast.”

Jason Calacanis, one of several Silicon Valley tech investors who hosts the podcast, prompted the response when asking whether the 45th president would “promise us you will give us more ability to import the best and brightest around the world to America.”

Mark Krikorian, the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Post that the green-card handout was “a cockamamie proposal” that would unleash a “firehose of foreign cash” by effectively “stapling a green card to the diploma” of any US college graduate.

“If someone earns a PhD. at a university in a hard science, I personally will drive to their house and give them a green card,” Krikorian said. “The issue is any foreign college graduate, even from a bogus two-year master’s program or gender studies [major], would get a green card.

“If this proposal were adopted, you would see an explosion of quickie, one-year master’s programs around the country as a way of selling green cards to foreigners,” he added, which lobbyists and others would “exploit” to earn profits from potentially “billions of people around the world.”

“There’s no percentage limit for any particular institution,” Krikorian concluded. “Foreign students are one of the drivers of immigration because if you come here to study from Yemen or Cameroon, why would you want to go back?”

No! STOP ALL IMMIGRATION TO THE US NOW!
How is it you believe America “needs” immigrants? My white son-in-law can’t even find a halfway decent paying job. But hey, no problem, let’s bring in more Hindus.

I’m against this proposal. But I’m also going to give Trump some time to clarify or rethink his position. He has a history of throwing out new ideas from time to time and sometimes walking them back or modifying them at a later date.

Green cards should be given out on an individual basis. Never automatically.

Multinationals already import brains and outsource labor.

This is a Romney and Paul Ryan plan. Trump is water carrying for the chamber of commerce on this.

The USA is a country, not an international flop house. This country exists for its citizens, not for multinationals and other woke businesses and their desire to have the cheapest wages.

H1-Bs are what US companies want. They are beholden to those companies and can be sent away, at any time, with no unemployment insurance concerns.

They directly compete with US citizens, for nearly any technical type job.

The companies place an ad for a specific skill set and lowball the wage. Of course, Mr./Ms Asian is happy with that, as it's better for them than Asian wages, and it helps open the permanent residency and citizenship to bring over all their family and friends, at our cost.

People who claim these people are needed are laughable. We probably get 5-10+ additional migrants per such worker. Now all are competing for all positions in the US, which is why you see so many, even at Walmart, checking you out, etc.

Chain migration and damage to the US is real.

Ridicule anyone who says, otherwise.

I went to an engineering school back in the day. We had quite a few kids from poor countries. I don’t recall exactly, but many of them were on scholarships from their country and then were obligated to get jobs in their country. While some might call it a “brain drain”, I thought it made sense. These smart people from poor countries can go back and help their country get better.

Although now that I’m older, most of those countries are poor because they have crappy leaders. More engineers and doctors aren’t going to help much. And teaching them government and politics in most U.S. schools today will probably just make them worse!

Anybody who believes in sovereign nations with controlled borders.

I hired a guy from Scotland once for that very reason. I could not find an American with the unique skill set we needed, so I jumped through all the hoops to justify hiring a Scot and PROVE we could not find an American. It was tough. This was 30 years ago.

Good! He needs a good slamming on this. Needs to have it made clear what giveaways to corporate donors we can live with—and those we can’t.

BTW, there are loads and loads of illegals in college now with barely any academic motivation or attainment at all, being shuffled along for the money attached to them.

Trump was VERY clear in his statement that he intends to push this as part of his platform, and that graduation from a college, university, or community college will be sufficient to “automatically” get a green card.

It’s a rehashed Hillary Clinton proposal, but it would be a big problem for him to try walking it back now.

Yeah, it typically took about $5,000 -$10,000 in legal fees and 6 months to year of time to document and justify the case and gain approval for even the most slam dunk of an H1B visa recipient

He won’t, and I won’t (give up on Trump).

If you noticed, he mentioned India and China, not Mexico and South America, et al. Personally? I don’t want anyone to get special favors, but someone with a hard science degree (e.g., not a two year polysci AA) is a lesser pill to take than some banger from Guatemala with tats all over his body. But in any case, if he wins all that gets in line with lesser priority, IMO.

Even Laura Loomer, who’s basically a sycophant for anything Trump wants, right or wrong, put out a long tweet slamming the plan.
