MIAMI (AP) — Former President Donald Trump said in an interview posted on Thursday he wants to give automatic green cards to foreign students who graduate from U.S. colleges, a sharp departure from the anti-immigrant rhetoric he typically uses on the campaign trail.
Trump was asked about plans for companies to be able to import the “best and brightest” in a podcast taped Wednesday with venture capitalists and tech investors called the “All-In.”
“What I want to do and what I will do is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country. And that includes junior colleges too, anybody graduates from a college. You go there for two years or four years,” he said, vowing to address this concern on day one.

Even the surface doesn’t look good, look at the sheetrock work, one of the first trades taken by Mexicans in the late 70s in California. Mexico has never been known for masters and old world fine workmanship.
Rumor has it nobody ever gets an education in universities.
They only get indoctrinated.
Rush used to say we need to export liberalism. This is the single best way to accomplish that export. Indoctrinate them and then ship'em off.
What evidence is there that the “brightest students” are coming out of left wing universities?
All part of Q-ball’s plan, I’m sure.
So glad I’m staying home and not voting for any of these sellouts.
It is becoming clear he has not learned a god damned thing from his last FAILED term. We are DONE.
Does this offer include Gazans getting degrees online from the Univ. of Phoenix or DeVry?
Need “brighter” people?
Option 1:
Rely on foreign hordes... Short-term: problem eased. Long-term: US non-excellence perpetuated and even worsened. Nation lost.
Option 2:
Say no to foreign hordes... Short-term: hurts. Long-term: Nation forced to develop its own people with incentive programs and better education. Nation saved.
That is absolute nonsense. Both I, and my wife, can attest to foreign students at our respective schools as being the worst examples of cheaters. I even had two foreign friends in my program tell me they had to cheat to be equal with people like me, because I knew English better than they did.
I went to a top school, as did my wife.
These days, most skilled trades are taught in community colleges. In fact, if you want a technology skill with a path to an above average salary, community college programs are often the fastest and least expensive route available.
We recruited the best of the best at grad level world wide.
That gave us a roughly 50-50 American to foreign student ratio
All of our people were far above average
I was responsible for academic integrity and we did not have cheaters
I personally helped shepherd a good number of foreign PhD students through the H1B program for the reasons the H1B program was originally intended for-to give outstanding foreign students with academic credentials and skills otherwise unavailable a path residency and citizenship so they could contribute their unique skill sets to benefit America
That was long enough ago to prove that virtually all of them went on to become American citizens who have made major positive contributions to America
Oh, HELL NO!
I, most definitely, believe you are clueless on what cheating was actually happening under your nose.
As a student, I saw what you couldn't.
Dude, with all due respect - our people didn’t need to cheat . Getting straight 4.0 in class work was incidental to their primary job as research scientists defining the state of the art.
I used to go through a stack of applications for students who never got a B in their entire academic careers, and had perfect scores on their SAT and GRE entrance exams plus some pretty amazing extra curricular skills
They all went on to pretty amazing and productive careers. The foreigners who stayed in the US we’re all disproportionately successful individuals who made their marks in their chosen fields
Great. Even a caveman can do it. All the less excuse we need foreigners.
This is going to be the new divide in the party, with pretentious “enlightened” faghits backing foreigners presenting their treason as morally superior besides, similar to what happened during GW amnesty divide in the early 2000’s. Yeah we do not need foreign students. Or, if we do, all the more reason to let the wall rise at our backs and fight our way out of dependency rather than being forced back into that deep pit of failure beside which the soil has already been heaped in preparation.
We have seen in which direction many of these students lean in the months since the October 7 Hamas Massacre. Numerous times the demonstrators have pulled down the American flag and put up another one. They have publicly proclaimed their loyalty to destroying the USA. Let them in permanently at your peril.
This is why I have pretty low expectations for a second Trump term.
Yes, he'll be better than Biden. But not by much. Try as he might, he just can't squelch that "90s-era NYC liberal" that makes up a big part of his thinking.
Trump definitely needs to reconsider this. I understand he wants to move to a more merit-based immigration system, but there should be nothing automatic about any green card. If an employer can prove a foreigner has some specific skill he can not otherwise find, then that’s one thing. But automatic green cards? Hell no. What about all the Chinese college students who are over here? The CCP would just love this policy.
>>Really bad idea. Makes him look like a squish on immigration. His support will weaken.
If he doubles down on this, it most certainly will. Trump has been good to his followers. He’s largely stayed true to what he’s promised them. But if he starts taking their support for granted, he will start losing them.
That would explain some of his picks for the Cabinet during his administration.
