Shortly after Judge Aileen M. Cannon drew the assignment in June 2023 to oversee former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case, two more experienced colleagues on the federal bench in Florida urged her to pass it up and hand it off to another jurist, according to two people briefed on the conversations.
The judges who approached Judge Cannon — including the chief judge in the Southern District of Florida, Cecilia M. Altonaga — each asked her to consider whether it would be better if she were to decline the high-profile case, allowing it to go to another judge, the two people said.
But Judge Cannon, who was appointed by Mr. Trump, wanted to keep the case and refused the judges’ entreaties. Her assignment drew attention because she has scant trial experience and had previously shown unusual favor to Mr. Trump by intervening in a way that helped him in the criminal investigation that led to his indictment, only to be reversed in a sharply critical rebuke by a conservative appeals court panel.
The extraordinary and previously undisclosed effort by Judge Cannon’s colleagues to persuade her to step aside adds another dimension to the increasing criticism of how she has gone on to handle the case.
She has broken, according to lawyers who operate there, with a general practice of federal judges in the Southern District of Florida of delegating some pretrial motions to a magistrate — in this instance, Judge Bruce E. Reinhart. While he is subordinate to her, Judge Reinhart is an older and much more experienced jurist. In 2022, he was the one who signed off on an F.B.I. warrant to search Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump’s club and residence in Florida, for highly sensitive government files that Mr. Trump kept after leaving office...

It’s also inappropriate for them to ask any judge to step aside. The judges are assigned at random, or when they are the next one up on the case “wheel”.
This is done precisely to prevent the corrupt assignment of a judge.
Requests to recuse are done on the record in public.
Trying to privately push a judge off a case is totally corrupt.
So the Deep State, fearing that Cannon might give Trump a fair trial, and tried to get her off the case so an “experienced” anti-Trump judge could rig the trial. Those involved should be forced to resign and report to prison.
Federal Magistrate Reinhart is more experienced all right - more experienced in towing the party line. He issued a warrant so broad - against the Fourth Amendment - that the FBI could search Trump's dreams, search his wife's mother's dog's dreams. Reinhart signed off on the use of deadly force! Magistrate Reinhart proved himself 'useful' in ever action he took - always against Trump's rights and interests.
It is noteworthy that the Constitution busting 'Rat Party has tried to remove not only south Florida Judge Aileen Cannon but also SCOTUS justices Thomas and Alito. They are H3ll bent on getting the justice that they want --- one sided, of course. When Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg declared publicly how much she despised Trump, that was deemed OK; she didn't have to recuse herself on decisions affecting Trump.
The 'Rat Party wants dictatorial justice, where they streamline the justice system by telling us who is guilty and who not guilty, what the law is and whether some laws must be ignored or expunged from the record. 'Rat Party justice is justice that always favors their needs❗

Federal magistrates are a significant cut below the judges, they handle discovery and can handle a trial if the parties agree.
Trying to replace a judge with a liberal magistrate is appalling.
Exactly! I could go back in my Mar-a-Lago files and document all the times Jack Smith and his crew went to Magistrate Reinhart to be sure that they got what they wanted, bypassing Judge Cannon.
The judge has been quite 'patient' (tolerant) I think because she knows the evil power that confronts her. I think her plan is to reasonably string along the prosecution until it becomes impossible to hold the trial prior to the election. We already saw how Smith tried to scurry SCOTUS along for a quick decision - and they patiently thwarted his plan of a 'speedy trial' - which, it needs to be said, is written into the Constitution to protect the defendant, not to allow prosecutors to withhold or tamper with evidence and hasten a verdict the defense is not prepared to answer.
