WASHINGTON (AP) — The Navy is weighing what to do about the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier, which has been battling Houthi rebel attacks on shipping in the Red Sea for nearly nine months. The question is how to replicate the carrier’s combat power if the ship returns home.
The service has 11 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. Generally, they are getting ready to deploy, are deployed or have come off deployment and have gone in for maintenance and repairs.
The carriers have a lifespan of about 50 years, and halfway through they undergo a major overhaul of their nuclear and other systems, which can take several years.
Here’s a look at where the Navy’s carriers are now:

The silicon chip has made naval surface combatants, land armored vehicles, helicopters and most fixed wing aircraft obsolete death traps. It will be a nerd behind a console that will determine the outcome of future wars.
I realize that it is so ‘last century’
But what was wrong with the concept of
“Loose Lips Sink Ships!”???
Ah well, this could just be a bit of disinformation being pushed by the DOD.
Someone should introduce Mr. Houthi to Mr. Napalm. Can you say Linebacker III bombing campaign?
Russia and China appreciate the opportunity to adjust their targeting systems. Nice work.
When are the adults going to be in charge again in this Country??
You have some vivid fantasies.
These things are so large and require so many people working on them…they are difficult to hide.
I imagine if they were “needed” they could both “disappear” and the ones in dry dock could be moved out pretty quickly.
But these updates have been maintained for a long, long time.
You have to keep in mind that the Moscow spokespeople on FR need to keep the pot stirred every day whether they have news or not. This story is merely today’s version.
What I see is a mostly useless and very expensive effort to down incoming drones and missiles.
What I don’t see is any effort to take the fight to the Houthis where it counts: on the ground in Yemen.
We will consistently lose until we go on the offensive.
Nobody is getting within striking distance of a US carrier. Even with Biden as CinC.
If you wish to control the ground, you must be on the ground.
Now, this is just between you, me and the lamppost. Shhhh... They have an APP for that

What is the range of hypersonic missiles and how far out from a carrier group can they be shot down?
And if you check the Flight Radar App, you will see a number of Navy trainer flights and an Air Force Stratotanker in the vicinity of the Harry Truman right now.
Russia and China appreciate the opportunity to adjust their targeting systems. Nice work.

You don’t think the Russians know where our carriers and battle groups are? This isn’t 1941.
Drone swarms are the next thing in warfare.
I hear silence. Good post.
The Hootie and the Blowfish had something to do with one carrier group limping away. Now that the N. Koreans, Iran, Hooties, and Cubans are getting Hypersonic Missiles - JOE F’N BIDEN & HIS LOSER TEAM has put America on the defense into the future. The world changed when Blinken and Sullivan/Austin decided to attack Russia inside Russia.
If Biden or the DNC retains the White House, I predict that everyone of these carrier groups will be targeted within four years by non-nuclear proxy groups using Chicom/Ruski Hypersonic Conventional Warheads.
One day the US WOKE....
