Today marks the centenary of the birth of George Herbert Walker Bush, 41st president of the United States. With one exception — his eldest son in 2004 — he is the last Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote.
He was a remarkable man in many ways, having been decorated as a U.S. Navy pilot during World War II, and his resume before the presidency was broad. After becoming a successful oil executive, he was a two-term congressman, unsuccessful candidate for the Senate, ambassador to the United Nations and to China, chairman of the Republican National Committee and director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Bush seems now a figure of a truly bygone age. He was a relatively low-key vice president to Ronald Reagan by choice rather than imposition, learning from his Democratic predecessor Walter Mondale that being effective as VP in Washington owed a lot to avoiding conflict with White House staff and cabinet secretaries. He was also aware that the previous Republican vice president, Nelson Rockefeller, had become mired in disputes with other members of the administration by trying to insert himself into the decision-making process.

The term “Anglo-Saxon” is anachronistic in the extreme. Anglo-Saxons spoke Old English and lived in England and southeastern Scotland in the Early Middle Ages. Their origin traces from Germany in the 5th Century.
Things have changed since King Alfred. WASP is useful as a term describing word origins which come from the Old English.
Now you see why the Left had declared war on men the past generation or two. Divide and conquer.

They do know what they are talking about— and also WHO did this.
They are the same people who staged the fake J6 “riot”— and they are embedded corruptocrats who are part of this problem, which hopefully can peaceably be dealt with and return our Republic to Constitutional balance.

The term, WASP, was initially coined to describe the Northeastern upper classes who dominated industry, finance, and higher education before World War II. That upper class was predominantly, though not exclusively, of English colonial descent: the DuPonts, Roosevelts, and Vanderbilts, for example. Catholics, Jews, Southerners, and Westerners were outside this elite. Not that there were not wealthy and influential men who were not part of the WASP elite, e.g., the "Our Crowd" of German Jews, but they were not the leaders of finance or industry.

Woodrow Wilson’s grandparents all came over after the Revolution. He was born a Southerner, and more of his ancestors were Scots or Scotch-Irish than “Anglo-Saxon.” Yet in a lot of ways he was definitely a WASP — or extremely WASP-adjacent. You didn’t get to be president of Princeton in those days if you weren’t considered to be a WASP.
The classic WASP was from the Northeast, but there was some “fluidity.” C. Douglas Dillon, Treasury Secretary to JFK and LBJ, was definitely a WASP (Groton, Harvard, investment banking, multimillionaire, French chateau, art collection), but his grandfather was a Texan (and Jewish).
