Three veterans slammed former President Trump as a “draft dodger” and argued he is unfit to be commander in chief in a new video from President Biden’s reelection campaign unveiled Thursday, marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Marine Corps veteran Curtis Register, Army veteran Ed McCabe and Navy veteran Matthew McLaughlin participated in the minutelong video, which was intended to “highlight the stark contrast between Donald Trump, who criticizes veterans and has refused to take accountability or attend military funerals, and President Biden, who stands with our troops abroad and takes care of them at home,” according to the Biden campaign.
“A good commander in chief is somebody who gives a s‑‑‑,” Register said to open the video.
“Donald Trump has zero accountability in his life,” McLaughlin said.
McCabe added, “He’s a draft dodger, simple as that.”
The campaign highlighted that Trump reportedly referred to American veterans buried in France as “losers” and “suckers” and mocked then-Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who was a prisoner in the Vietnam War. Trump has previously denied making the “suckers” remark, though it was later confirmed by his former chief of staff, John Kelly.
“From draft dodging to promising to take away veterans’ hard-earned benefits to repeating the rhetoric of dictators, it’s clear that Donald Trump doesn’t care about those who have bravely served our country. He doesn’t understand their sacrifice or the values they vowed to protect,” Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) said in a statement.
Duckworth is a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel and a member of the Biden campaign’s national advisory board.

Democrats will still criticize Republicans for this issue.
Remember Dan Quayle was criticized for allegedly bypassing the draft because he was in the National Guard. His being in the National Guard offended the sensibilities of liberals.
There are no consistent criteria on various issues that are used to pass judgment on Republicans.
Trump was the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Services of the United States of America for four years. He never took a salary. How’s that for service?

This is BS. Kelly NEVER confirmed the suckers and losers remark.
I ask myself repeatedly if I dodged the draft in 1970 by drawing 240 in the first lottery. I dropped my student deferment and went into the 1A pool. They never reached my number, and each year I dropped further back in the list.
Sometimes I wish I had enlisted with some of my friends, but didn’t do it. Regardless of the potential consequences I still have regrets to this day. Makes me appreciate the sacrifices of those who served even more.
Complete garbage and filled with lies. Trump was awesome for veterans and allowed them to go to private providers if the VA wouldn’t see them in a timely manner.
Decades ago he provided his private jet to bring vets home.

The last time we had a Dim prez who served in the military was Carter. Since then there have been 20 years (5 terms) of Republican prez’s who served in the military. (Reagan served in the Army Reserve, and I believe the Bushes’ military service is already known.)
DeSantis, served honorably during war time, awarded (among other decs) the Bronze Star.
Biden got 5 deferments during Vietnam for asthma. Yeah, tough guy, lifeguard, athlete.... asthma.
The democrat campaigns have always lied through their teeth, and this ad is no different.

Trump wasn’t forcing discharges on men who would not submit to an experimental shot.
Our nation's effort in Vietnam was a national policy initiated by Democrats; Vietnam was then later lost by Democrats in the Congress. (See for example, our withdrawal in Afghanistan.)

He got an officer Bronze Star for exceptional fobbit legal work. There are better choices.
Trump had an outstanding record with the military and his care for them during his presidency. He doesn’t need anyone to shore that up.
