Russia is expected to significantly increase the size of its military presence in Ukraine, with an additional 200-300 thousand troops set to join their ranks, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in an interview with Reuters.
The minister added that the current number of Russian forces stationed in Ukraine and along its borders stands at 500 thousand troops.
Umerov emphasized the urgency of mobilizing fresh recruits to facilitate the rotation of military personnel in response to the anticipated surge in Russian troop numbers.
"At this stage, we are focused on training our personnel ... pilots, we are focused on infrastructure, we are focused on bringing operational and maintenance teams and we are working on modernisation or bringing on more platforms."

“Of necessity, when productive resources are shifted to war effort, the civilian domestic economy suffers. That leads to a decline in the civilian standard of living, which, along with growing military casualties, is the sort of thing that leads to public discontent. “
Did any of this happen in the UK or USA or Canada during WW2 ?
Just FYI, Russia is a steel exporter, grain exporter and oil exporter. Those are the three basics you need to fight an extended war. NATO, on net, is an importer of all three.
"NATO weapons to be hit in any country from where Russia may be attacked — Medvedev"

The Russians won’t be giving up anytime soon. They see NATO in Ukraine as an existential threat. Putin knows our history of abandoning our allies. He will continue destroying Ukraine’s military until it collapses. NATO will slink away from Ukraine with it’s tail between it’s legs sometimes after November.
CIA/State. it’s what they do !

As for the Russian economy, due to sanctions, Europe adapted and found non-Russian sources of raw materials, while Russia found new export markets. The more substantial harm is in Russia losing access to US and EU technology, equipment, and parts. This has especially hurt the Russian civilian economy, while China, North Korea, Iran, and others -- for a price -- have supplied stop gaps and substitutes for the Russian military effort.
We ought not though let examination of Russian trees divert our attention from assessment of the forest. On the net, Russian power and strategic position have been diminished by their attack on Ukraine. Russia is relatively weaker and will soon be struggling to maintain control of their federation. Putin hopes that his current purge and another military effort will somehow bring victory over Ukraine. There is no victory though to be had for Russia.

God Willing we will all be here June 1, 2025 and we can check back and assess the accuracy of this forecast.
Putin and his crackpot Great Russia theorists regarded Ukraine as a pseudo country of innate Russian identity that would easily collapse under invasion and then embrace amalgamation into Russia. This was their solution to Russian demographic decline.
Of course, that kind of thinking grossly misread the nature of Ukraine, with even many ethnic Russians there preferring Ukrainian citizenship and orientation toward the West as offering a better life than Russia did. In any event, the Ukrainians fought well enough to wreck Putin's invasion in a humiliating fashion.
Now Putin and his circle of yes men hope to batter Ukraine enough to be able to get a peace that can be called a victory that justifies Russia's painful losses in blood and treasure. My reading of history though is that countries in a bind like Russia is in rarely win even a limited, face-saving victory. When the tide of history turns, it usually does so more sharply than one expects.
The usuals are full of desperation and projection. I keep hearing of the hundreds of thousands in reserves, Ukrainians out of manpower and yet in the latest “offensive” this mighty army has made what, 5 kilometers in advances?
I guess Putin is waiting another 2 years to use all these reserves, meanwhile he will continue to throw troops in piece meal.
What does the Cold War’s effort to stop communism have to do with Ukraine or Russia today?
To add to your reply, the US conceivably could split into at least three separate countries with or without the breaking up of NATO.
The Russian DefMin monthly briefing puts the number of ukrainian troops killed and injured in May, at 35,000 men and women. The number of armored vehicles destroyed in May at 279, including 4 Abrams tanks.
Why the West is frantically cranking up their confrontation with longer range weapons, on behalf of ukraine.
That’s a GREAT SUMMARY of what the Neocons thought of Russia, since they made EVERY CLAIM that you state.
...and then Russia PROVED THEM WRONG, at every step of this war.
“A phone call put almost a million people in the streets protesting Yanukovich’s treachery? Go on, pull the other one.”
We also have Holocaust Deniers on this site - but no one takes them seriously either. History is history and while your buddies may get away with re-writing it in the Western Media, that doesn’t work here, as there is FAR TOO MUCH history, written at the time, still available to anyone who looks to make you guys look like the Leftists that the media is infested with.
A letter from Congress to the DoD was released last month.
It indicated the Ukrainians will have 12 ( twelve) F-16 pilots trained BY THE END OF 2024.
It urged that more UPT pilot training slots be allocated to Ukraine.
Over 800 more sq KM captured in May.
As per the MinDef monthy report.
While taking out 35,000 more uke troops and almost 300 more armored vehicles in the war of attrition.
Gone….is Every gain the Ukes made last summer in their counteroffensive ( if thats what you call sending company-size units repeatedly into the front at exactly the place they were expected)
Yep, more Russians working toward finishing off the Uke Nazis before The Last Ukrainian Alive leaves Ukraine.
Russia lacks the ability to support such a force in the field
