I’m in Tel Aviv getting ready for a night on the town. This week in the IDF was great! Here are my impressions:
This Week’s Mission: Packing boxes of shelf stable food for frontline troops in Gaza.
Team: 50 people from around the world with many Brits, Aussies, Canadians, Americans, Brazilians, etc. Unlike last week’s uniquely fit team, many of the participants had compromised health situations. Clearly they were chosen for this work because many roles were seated along an assembly line, and the physical requirements were limited.
Results: 44,000 meals assembled and shipped into Gaza.
Base: A large base in the Northern Negev focused on logistics for Gaza.
Transit: Palletized on 18 wheelers that rolled to forward staging operations where friends from last week saw and handled our meals as they continued on to front line troops in Gaza.
My Work: I chose to break down the boxes the food came in in bulk. I broke down well over 10,000 boxes until they were flat, crushed them into bins, and delivered about 100 pound bags of cardboard to the trash compactor or dumpster. This was the most physically demanding work available, and I and three others took it because we were the healthiest mules on the team. I'm beat.
Temperature: Monday was 100 degrees in the shade generally, and perhaps hotter in the warehouse. My uniform was soaked through by 9:00 a.m. until we knocked off at 4:00 p.m.
Video: One of our team members visited the site of the Nova Music Festival killing field today and just posted a 6 minute video of the ad hoc memorial field that has sprung up. Each of the dead or kidnapped seems to have a tall “T” stake adorned by family and friends with pictures, flowers, flags, testimonials, etc. The video is not narrated. It takes 6 minutes to walk all around the site. I’m bawling my eyes out and I want to personally go to Gaza and f*** those mothers up!
Next Week’s Mission: Apparently, several of us are being sent to Eilat in the extreme South on the Red Sea to work in the kitchen of a Naval base doing food prep. Chopping vegetables, assembling and cooking, cleaning the kitchen, etc. This is a plum assignment because, apparently, the Navy is the service with their stuff together more than any other. And, Eilat gives us the opportunity to be on the beach, and see Iron Dome and other intercepts of missiles and drones from the Houthi and Iran’s catspaws in Iraq. It’s great that I will have had three excellent postings.
Alex Jones (?!?!?): A Finnish participant this week said that his interest in volunteering was to live through and document the goings on in Israel for his sub-blog at InfoWars. That’s kinda wild. He said that and I’m sure none of the other 48 participants had any idea what he was talking about. I chatted him up later to confirm what I heard to make sure it wasn’t lost in translation or accent. Nope. Dude is not a great fan of Alex, but does publish through there. Very strange: A Finnish Jewish (by name) InfoWars correspondent.
Explosions in Gaza: Each night we would sit on the porch if the barracks and solve the world’s problems from 8-9 p.m. We know that we were about 29 miles from Rafah. The explosions came about one per minute, a low “cccccrrrrrruuuuuummmmmmppppp!!!!!” from the direction of Rafah. I woke up unable to sleep one night between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30. Same thing: explosions about one per minute. Taking the wood to the bad guys is gratifying to hear.
That’s enough for this week. I may post more down thread as recollections hit me.

Thanks!
Stay safe my friend!
You will come back with a new understanding of how difficult life can be in Israel surrounded by those who want to kill you.
I just finished a bag of Bamba Peanut Butter Puffs, btw. :^)
Include mine please.
Thank you. ‘Pod
“You will come back with a new understanding of how difficult life can be in Israel surrounded by those who want to kill you.”
That fact makes every moment of life sweeter.
Israelis clearly have a lust for daily moment to moment life.
Life: It’s the thing!
A very Jewish perspective.
You got it correct.
Israeli’s live for the moment.
Lehayim!
Fantastic. Every new post increases my appetite to follow in your footsteps. I will sign up this week.
And yes, I wish I was young enough to go to the front lines and shoot at the Hamas rapists.

Above is a youtube “short” video (a minute?) that is not a tour, but gives one the idea of what the memorial site is like.
