Russian shell production three times greater than of Ukraine's allies
The Kyiv Independent ^ | May 26, 2024 | Dominic Culverwell

Russia is managing to produce artillery shells at triple the speed of Ukraine’s allies for a quarter of the price, Sky News reported on May 26, referencing analysis from management consulting firm Bain & Company.

Using publicly available data, the firm claims that Russian factories can produce or refurbish 4.5 million 152 mm shells this year for $1,000 per round. European countries and the U.S. are only expected to produce 1.3 million 155 mm shells combined, at an average cost of $4,000 per unit.

Slow artillery production has hindered Ukraine’s progress on the battlefield. Soldiers claim that for every round they fire, Russia launches around five back.

A Senior Lieutenant with the 57th Brigade in Kharkiv Oblast, where Russia launched a new offensive on May 10, told Sky News that Ukraine urgently needs more supplies. However, he added that Ukrainian soldiers are making every round count and are able to destroy a target with one, two, or three shells.

Not only has Russia locked up North Korea as a source of munitions they only have to trade for it with what they have in plentiful supply - food.

Who is sitting on whose land and taking more daily? Which country has 25% of its citizens hiding in other countries? Which country has much of its infrastructure/housing destroyed?

Who will tame America’s MIC oligarchs here? Add to list of Trump to-do’s if he is able to return next year?

It took Putin 10 years, with far more powers at his disposal than a US President, to get Russia's MIC oligarchs and their political cronies under control.

Even today, Putin is still arresting defense-industry and state-owned company officials for "corruption." Is it righteous cleaning-out of corrupt officials, or a dictator's typical attacks on political opponents? Probably some of both.

Anyway, while MIC corruption in both Moscow and DC are highly analogous, the solutions must be different - given Russia has a very different culture, history and government system vs. the Constitutional USA.

Trump was under heavy attack from the MIC day one he landed in Washington. He made zero progress - except that he exposed it, for many Americans to see, which is a start. The same attacks against Trump continue until today.

Its why we are so far behind in this regard. We are only waking up now. The only Constitutional solution I see in the USA is defunding/bankrupting our MIC, and then re-building it under a different, de-centralized model.

Duh! And, there is zero chance the West can match Russian production before Russia takes, at least, everything east o the Dnieper river.

Having Ukraine continue to fight a way it can't win is immoral, evil and insane.

“”””Russia can pump out more shells than NATO””””

Not in a contest they can’t, Russia is on a full, 100% war footing and putting everything they can into it, they are focusing their budget and economy to pay their MIC.

Since NATO isn’t invading anyone and isn’t in a war, and doesn’t depend on artillery like Russia and Ukraine have to, the NATO countries are trying to incorporate increased production at a profitable permanent basis, a long term increase that makes sense budget wise and meets their nation’s needs and some for Ukraine.

If the West decided to focus on producing artillery, then that would be an entirely different story, America is an example, we are increasing production and adding lines and at least one new factory, but not based on an immediate spurt of mass production but based on long term needs and reasonable current investment in it.

The corruption is so universal that the only solution is going to be the collapse of the currency in the cesspool of governmnet generated unpayable debt.

It really seems to be the only way out, doesn't it? History seems to show that vast, bloated, expensive highly-centralized government bureaucracies become both tyrannical, and un-reformable.

While it will create very ugly and dangerous social and economic consequences for a period, a Fed.gov "bankruptcy" of some kind is necessary to save the American Republic.

We still have the framework of Federalism, local governance and civil society, despite Marxist attempts to kill them. That will be America's safety-net.

Well, we are waiting!
2-3 years, and NATO is not close to ramping up production to match Russia.
NATO’s plan was to sanction and destabilize Russia, then watch then collaspe like the Soviet Union.

NATO does not have a plan B
Never did!

Likely in 1-2 years, there will be a ceasefire. They'll have to draw a line. NATO troops will arrive in Kyiv.

This is going to happen after the Ukrainian Army is depleted. They're not at that point yet.

Sorry pal. Every one of your assumptions is false

NATO IS in a war with Russia.

NATO IS trying desperately to increase production, but its happening very slowly

It will not happen without both massive spending, inflation and debt as we have exported our industry and have turned ourselves into service/political societies.

NATO societies are in NO WAY ready for a true-war time footing

If NATO troops get involved, with the mass casualties that entails, it will result in the collapse of Western Governments.

Neocons haven’t even accounted for China, which is just waiting for the neocon DC clowns to further over-extend and hobble America before they act.

And its why neocons fools choosing to take over a corrupt Ukraine and create a war with Russia now is so incredibly stupid.

Russian shell production?

I am calling horse hockey on this. You don’t go to North Korea and China and beg for artillery shells if your production is that great. Production, does not mean ‘import or re-import’ of shells.

PS, the US has spend a great amount of money to bring new shell
Production on line, with three new plants. Historically, artillery is something the US always seems to figure out.

“”””NATO IS in a war with Russia.””””

“”””If NATO troops get involved””””

NATO isn’t in a war.

As far as China, the West and America and our Pacific allies are better prepared than we were before Russia invaded Ukraine and things are getting better in that regard since our allies have all reacted to the European War with increased military budgets and preparedness, and greater cooperation and shared purpose.

These guys seem to think that the West, America, and Japan have decided that we are going to drop our way of fighting, mothball our military assets such as aircraft, bombers, and missiles and switch to meeting Russia in mass artillery battles where we die by the 100s of thousands in the mud of our trenches and mass infantry attacks into the face of Russian artillery.

Yes they do so have a plan B!

Plan B is Uncle Sam will bail them out.

It's worked out every time they've tried it.

So far!...

True, but the Russians are fast running out of tube artillery to fire those shells. Their barrels are burning out and production of new tubes, let alone replacement barrel liners, has been minimal (@ 100 per year) for the whole war.

The Russians will be down to rocket artillery alone by the end of the year, and those have such shorter ranges than tube artillery that they are much more vulnerable to drone attack.

At that point the Russian army will utterly lack fire support.

Rather too often there is talk of jamming and corrupting coordinates and things like that.

Facts:

1) GPS is a spread spectrum signal. A navigation solution requires lock-on to 4 spacecraft orbiting about 10,000 miles up. The signal arrives from above. If you want to jam it, your transmitter needs to be above, and the jamming source, to spread its bandwidth over the wide spectrum of the signal, has to deliver big kilowatts of power at the relevant 1GHz+ frequency. It’s not easy.

2) GPS has an encrypted mode. It transmits a low precision signal, a high precision signal and an encrypted high precision signal. When the encryption is turned ON, it is on the satellites. Every receiver on the footprint of that satellite (which would include Africa and the Mediterranean/Europe) would be denied precision unless they have the decryption key. Commercial aircraft and ships don’t have it. It’s for military use.

3) Russia has its own constellation of satellites that generate its own high precision navigation solution. (China has one, and the EU as well, and Japan and India) Turning on encryption, originally installed to deny enemies use of the precision signal, doesn’t deny Russia anything, since they aren’t using GPS.

4) These stories of jamming are likely not correct. Now, jamming probably does destroy drone activity. Drones have signals in 2 directions, the video from the drone, and the piloting commands to the drone. You need only jam one of those directions to render them largely useless. If you really want to talk about the Russian electronic warfare advantage, talk about how they are undoing Ukraine drone activity. If you can do that, you don’t spend a $10million intercept missile on a cheap drone.

5) If the Russians have found a way to destroy the electronic function of artillery, regardless of navigation issues, and achieved huge rendering of Ukraine artillery useless, then it’s time to surrender. And I mean everyone, not just Ukraine. That would be a localized, focused EMP. That is game over.
