Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker said Friday that his “heart is broken in a thousand pieces” after his daughter and son-in-law were taken hostage then later killed by a gang in Haiti.
Natalie and Davy Lloyd were among a group of missionaries who were ambushed as they left a church on Thursday, the nonprofit Missions in Haiti Inc. wrote on Facebook.
A gang of “3 trucks full of guys” whisked the group away, the nonprofit, which is run by Davy’s parents, David and Alicia Lloyd, wrote in a frantic Facebook post calling for “urgent prayers.”
“Davy was taken to the house tied up and beat. The gang then took our trucks and loaded everything up they wanted and left. Another gang came after to see what was going on and if they could help, so they say. No one understood what they were doing, not sure what took place but one was shot and killed and now this gang went into full attack mode.”
Davy and Natalie tried to use an internet connection to call Davy’s parents, the nonprofit’s post continued. “So they are holed up in there, the gangs has shot all the windows out of the house and continue to shoot,” the post added. “Their lives are in danger. I have been trying all my contacts to get a police armored car there to evacuate them out to safety but can’t get anyone to do. I also am trying to negotiate with the gang so how much $ to stand down and let them leave and get to safety. PLEASE PRAY- Going to be a long night. The phones have all died I can’t get a hold of anybody for the past several hours now to know what was going on.”
However, a follow-up post three hours later said, “Davy and Natalie and Jude were shot and killed by the gang about 9 o’clock this evening.”
Baker wrote on Facebook that he had “never felt this kind of pain.”
Violence has reached fever pitch in Haiti in the weeks since a new prime minister was announced last month, and kidnappings of missionaries and other foreigners are extremely common.
But just two weeks ago, Missions in Haiti said they felt the situation was stabilizing as the U.S. military sent personnel and equipment, and a Kenya-led international force was slated to arrive later in May.
“It may be the worst is behind us now and better days ahead,” the group wrote on Facebook. “We are believing this is the case and Haiti is coming out of this dark time.”
Five days ago, the group said things had calmed down even further. “Gang activity still happening with looting and destruction, but much less then before,” they wrote. “...For the past 2 weeks we have watched US military planes fly over several times a day. They are flying in equipment and supplies for the international force that is coming. It is reported the first 200 troops from Kenya are to land this week. Some gangs are realizing their rule is about to come to an end. 3 gang guys that come to the bakery for bread a couple times a week, I asked them what their plans are. They said ‘run to the Dominican Republic when the fighting starts.’”
“Haiti is not someplace, you should go if you value your life.”
That’s true. But it’s the ONLY place you should go if you value your after-life — if that’s where God wants you.

The apostle John was the only one who died of old age.

The martyrdom of Jim Elliot changed the world for the people who killed him. God will use it to try to change lives. And since it’s God’s choice in when and how each of us dies, then He has a purpose for what happened to this family even if we can’t or refuse to see it.

This very day, my sister (Baldwin77) is visiting the site in England where our ancestor was burned at the stake for his religious views in 1611.
It happened in Christ’s time. It happened in the 1600s. It’s happening now. It will continue.
I would not argue with that.
So since it is the will of God they were murdered there is no basis for discussion.

I was a Haitian social worker. We were never allowed to go into a dangerous area. Jesus said I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Carry a couple of swords. Even the Pope has armed bodyguards. Let’s not be completely stupid here. Jesus wanted us to use our brains, not be fools.
After Christ’s resurrection, the Apostles jeopardized their lives daily, to spread the Gospel. The romans and pharisees wanted the Christian movement squashed and hunted them down. What do you think Saul (Paul) was doing before Damascus?
Your logic concerning this is illogical.
I am a retired Air Force Rescue pilot and when I flew combat or civilian rescue missions, I “jeopardized” my life consistently trying to save other lives. By your logic, if I had been killed by an enemy surface to air missile, then I would’ve committed suicide??? Especially when Jesus says that there is no greater love than to lay your life down for your brother. Not buying it, sorry.
Your misunderstanding and failure to acknowledge responsibility on the part of those that are older and supposedly *wiser* is appalling and unworthy of being a parent

Which is basically what this ended up being. According to the father the kids trusted the gangs because a few had kids at their school. They put their faith in the gangs of a country with no rule or law

Please understand, I don’t take your message as necessarily directed toward me. I deeply respect their faith and what these two young people were trying to do in what I described, having seen it personally, as a living Hell. Just not sure everyone understands the depths of the pit they entered.

Some folks don’t get it and quite frankly never will.
These two did exactly what The Sovereign Lord God Almighty had them do. They lost their lives for THE GOSPEL - and they will inherit the biggest inheritance from God for doing exactly what He asked them to do.
Others can have their pampered lives and “babes” for now, “their best lives now”.
Why bother trying to explain it to them?

I think you see the gulf between those who perceive the Will of God, and those who are stuck in their flesh and quite frankly are enemies of God.
The Lord will do whatever He pleases with whoever He wants.
Send me Lord - what they did is what every True Christian should strive for.
