Europe Agrees to Give Russia's Billions to Ukraine

Russian central bank assets.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said the move will hand Ukraine up to €3 billion (about $3.3 billion) this year.

"We have approved in the EU using revenues from Russia's central bank's frozen assets to help Ukraine," wrote Lipavsky on X, formerly Twitter. "Up to €3B only this year, 90% goes for Ukraine's military. Russia must pay for its war damages."

The financial assets were frozen shortly after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Reuters reported this month that the EU has estimated that by 2027, windfall profits from Russia's central bank assets frozen in the world's largest trading bloc could reach €20 billion (about $21.7 billion). The frozen assets have been gaining a huge amount of interest because they are stuck.

More than two-thirds of Russia's frozen sovereign assets are stashed in the EU...

Ukraine has been very conservative with its manpower, especially the youth.

Well, you dont use it or need it. Not the ground warfare stuff anyway. Is the US planning to conduct continental scale ground warfare anytime soon, with its obsolescent reserve equipment stockpiles? With newly raised conscript armies (reserve equipment, note)? Against who?

In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled Europe Agrees to Give Russia's Billions to Ukraine , sinsofsolarempirefan wrote:

What is exactly is Russia going to do? Use nukes? NATO has nukes, so that isnt an option. Conventionally, NATO is far better armed and trained than Ukraine and has a larger economy and manpower reserves. Russia can be bottled up in port navally. So Russia can seethe and cope like it has been thus far.

Would you say that Russia is 'seething and coping' in the Ukraine right now?

Are you aware this is NATO's proxy war, the battle plans are designed and conducted by NATO military, and that NATO intelligence operators are active (including our CIA) in the fight? NATO is losing the fight so they want to publicly draw in American troops, along with troops from other member nations.

NATO threatened to send F-16's into the war zone in the Ukraine and Putin said he will considered F-16's nuclear threats.

He has warned the UK that should armaments made by the UK be used to attack Russia, he will destroy UK military assets in the Ukraine, and elsewhere.

Does that sound like 'coping' to you?

I pulled that info from a video I posted about here.

Its a big pool and a small drain.
Expect a delay.

No doubt.

I only hope the delay is l-o-o-n-g and slow. Very slow.

That does not mean the drain is stopped up.

I only hope it don't rupture!

Yes, more Russian bluster as usual. We should have sent more weapons faster and this would all have been over by now. The fact that Russia has been struggling so hard in Ukraine (population 40 million) shows you how well they would do against NATO and they know it.

Russia has been fighting a proxy war with NATO. NATO is losing.

NATO countries are supplying weapons, that is all, and Russia is still suffering 100,000s of casualties to advance over tiny amounts of land. At this rate they’ll wipe out the entire population of Russia before they reach Kyiv.

That's what they said about us in 1776.

Actually no -- the American revolution, or rather the English civil war part II was heavily sponsored by the French who had just lost the 7 years war (world war 1 - fought in North and south america, europe and Asia) and wanted to give the English a bruising.

Which they DID at the cost of bankrupting themselves leading to the French revolution

Anyway, a few decades later Haiti also got independence -- and do you think Haiti is a giant?

BRICS is not going to last for the simple reason that both India and Russia fear territorial expansion from China and India especially blocks Chinese business and explicitly wants to move away from China.

I guess you also don't believe that more and more countries are dumping the dollar and trading in their own currency, too.

Fewer are doing the latter - no one wants to trade in pesetas or lire. Only the big boys - China and India and to some extent Brazil - are saying trade in my currency. And they can do that with some trading partners. Oh and yeah the Eurozone does that.

The dollar in the basket of currencies is down, but not as low as it was in the early 60s. It will go down, but there is no one replacement for it, so it will be the biggest among a basket.

It’s now well known that a newly-unified, Russian-Belarussian command is planning a winter offensive….. …..a “second front” against unprepared, largely unguarded areas in the Ukraine’s north. There may be some diversionary raids, but it’s understood that the most likely axis of advance is near the Polish border, south to Lutsk and then potentially to Lvov….. …..cutting off the main supply lines into the Ukraine….. …..without which all organized resistance by Ukrainian forces employing large modern weapons, would cease totally in as little as six weeks.

Europe can do whatever the hell it wants. Just don’t come running to the American taxpayer if things go south.

As someone who lives in Poland, I don’t think Poland is “walking the gangster walk”.

Poland see’s it as “if we do not help Ukraine fight off Muscowy, we will be the next target. AND we should expect to stand on our own”.

"That's what they said about us in 1776."
Actually no

Okay. If you say so.

You remind me of the guy who jumped from the top of the Empire State Building and was heard yelling as he passed the 50th floor, "Everything is wonderful!"

I'm pretty sure there were ill-informed folks like you in Rome in 475 AD, Britain in the 1890s, or Spain as they slowly evolved into nothingness after dominating the world, along with so many others in world history.

And then you look around at how we have self-destructed in this country in the last 60 years, with crime-infested cities, $34 trillion in debt (and growing), and leaders that would make Nero look like Einstein. We've accomplished all of this while China and Russia have invested in building up their societies with investments in their infrastructure to grow and strengthen their economies — while we invested trillions in never-ending wars on little-bitty countries all around the planet (which have been a disaster).

Oh, no! It can't happen here. Only, IT IS!

“Rome in 475 AD”

In 475 AD it was already known that the Western Emperor would not last.

Note though that for the man on the street, there was no material change or political change between 470 to 500 AD —> what happened was that Odoacer sent the imperial purple to the SOLE emperor in Constantinople - Zeno.

So theoretically Zeno was the emperor of the people in the city of Rome, as was his successor etc. with the Goths being just local warlord vassals. In reality of course the Roman Emperor was just given lip service by the Goths, the Franks, the Suebi etc.

So the “Western Roman Empire” didn’t fall, it was just “absorbed” back into the ONE Roman empire.

The “Byzantine” Empire and the emperor there always, until 1453 called themselves the Roman emperor and were called as such by the Turks (who had the “Sultanate of the Rum” i.e. of the Rome).

Another funny aside is that the Island of Chios was given special rights under the Ottomans and were not part of the land ceded to the new Kingdom of Greece in 1821 — they only were captured by the Greeks in 1919 with the fall of the Ottomans. When the Greek soldiers came to the island and liberated it, the children were watching and when asked said “we are watching you Hellenes” — asked “but you are Greeks too” — and the children answered “No, we are Romans”. Note that all of this was in Greek dialects!

I'm not saying everything is wonderful

What I AM saying is that BRICS is not the threat.

a more likely scenario is that the USA becomes first among equals
